Remembering Sophie Nyweide: As authorities investigate the death of former child star Sophie Nyweide, her close friend and former partner, Eden Herlihy, is sharing cherished memories of the late actress and reflecting on their shared struggles with addiction. This article explores Herlihy’s personal insights into Nyweide’s life and the battles they faced together.
A Bond Forged in Recovery
“She had hope…I’ve lost a lot of people to addiction sadly,” Herlihy expressed in a recent interview. “Me and Sophie lost a lot of friends to this disease over the past couple of years. We knew the severity of it.”
Finding Solace at Elevations
Herlihy revealed that their friendship began at Elevations, a treatment center in Utah dedicated to supporting young individuals, aged 13 to 18, grappling with challenges like anxiety, depression, and bullying.
- Elevations offered a safe space for them to connect.
- They supported each other through personal struggles.
Shared Battles With Addiction
Herlihy disclosed that she and Nyweide were constant companions as they battled addiction. Herlihy admitted she was present when Nyweide used drugs, and they also engaged in drug use together.
“She Was So Strong”
Despite the heartbreak they witnessed due to addiction, Herlihy never anticipated that the former child star would succumb to the disease.
“No one is ever the right person to go. No one is meant to go from this disease, at least in my opinion. But I never thought it would be her because we fought so hard to survive the stuff we’ve gone through in our lives,” she stated. “She was the last person I was expecting to die from this disease because she was so strong.”
Remembering Nyweide’s Kind Heart
Reflecting on their first encounter, Herlihy recalled Nyweide’s immediate warmth and acceptance.
“She didn’t judge anybody, she wasn’t like the regular girls of our age group that [were] judging each other,” Herlihy remembered. “She was kind off the bat. [She] wasn’t talking bad about anybody. She just wanted everybody to feel safe and cared for.”
A Life Ended Too Soon
Nyweide’s family verified her death on Tuesday, April 22. She was only 24 years old.
“Sophie. A life ended too soon,” the obituary lamented. “May it not be in vain. May we all learn from her brief life on earth and do better. Yes, we must all protect our children and do better.”
