Prince William’s Reaction to King Charles’ Music Playlist
Prince William expressed surprise at his father, King Charles III’s, musical preferences after the monarch unveiled an Apple Music playlist in March. The selection of tunes, available on the popular streaming service, included several contemporary & popular tracks which apparently caught the Prince off guard. The unexpected playlist offered a glimpse into the King’s personal taste in music.
“I was expecting a lot of classical music, so I was surprised,” Prince William, 42, commented during a visit to Mentivity House, a youth center in London, on Thursday, April 24, according to
Hello Magazine.
The playlist, officially titled “His Majesty King Charles III’s Playlist”, was launched to celebrate Commonwealth Day on March 10 and featured a diverse range of artists, including Beyoncé, Michael Bublé, and Bob Marley.
Adeyemi Michael, Director of Mentivity House, playfully asked William if he believed the King might have included some “garage and U.K. funky” music on the playlist.
“I’m not sure he’d know what that was,” William responded jokingly.
The King’s Perspective on Music
“Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me. I know that is also the case for so many others,” King Charles, 76, shared in a video message announcing the project on March 7.
- He expressed the importance of music
- He recalled musical memory
“It has that remarkable ability to bring happy memories flooding back from the deepest recesses of our memory, to comfort us in times of sadness, and to take us to distant places. But perhaps, above all, it can lift our spirits to such a degree, and all the more so when it brings us together in celebration. In other words, it brings us joy,” he added.
Royal Playlist Highlights
The King initially debuted his playlist during an Apple Music 1 radio special called ‘The King’s Music Room’. During the broadcast, King Charles praised Beyoncé before playing her track, “Crazy in Love”.
Charles described the singer as “so exceptional that I could not resist including her music.”
William’s Visit to Mentivity House
During his visit on Thursday, Prince William posed for selfies and engaged in conversation with young individuals supported by Mentivity, an organization committed to enhancing the lives of young people through youth services such as mentorship programs.
He also participated in an impromptu soccer game organised in his honour, jokingly commenting, “I’ll only be ten seconds, I’m terrible at this,” according to

The Prince then partook in a round-table discussion with local business leaders about the importance of apprenticeships and the challenges young people encounter in securing better opportunities.
