Carlos Santana Hospitalized: Concert Postponed Due to Health Scare

Renowned rock musician Carlos Santana was rushed to a hospital in Texas due to a sudden medical situation, leading to the last-minute postponement of his concert. The 77-year-old guitar legend was scheduled to perform at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio on Tuesday night, but a health issue backstage forced the cancellation. His manager, Michael Vrionis, confirmed the incident.

Details of Santana’s Medical Emergency

“It is with deep regret that I must inform you that tonight’s performance in San Antonio has been postponed,” Vrionis stated. He explained that Santana was at the Majestic Theatre preparing for the show when he experienced what was determined to be dehydration. “Out of an abundance of caution and concern for Mr. Santana’s well-being, the decision to postpone the show was the most prudent course of action.”

Vrionis assured fans that the celebrated musician is stable and “doing well,” expressing Santana’s eagerness to return to San Antonio and continue his U.S. tour.

Tour Dates and Future Performances

While the San Antonio show will be rescheduled, questions linger about the status of the remaining tour dates, including performances in Sugar Land, Thackerville, Tulsa, Nashville, and New Orleans.

Santana is also expected to resume his Las Vegas residency on May 14, followed by a series of summer shows in Europe.

Previous Health Concerns of the Guitar Icon

This isn’t the first instance where health issues have caused Santana to step away from the stage. In January, he postponed a portion of his House of Blues residency in Las Vegas after fracturing a finger in what Vrionis described as an “accidental fall” at his home in Hawaii.

“Carlos was taking a walk at his vacation home in Kauai when he suffered a hard fall and broke his little finger on his left hand,” Vrionis said at the time.

“He required the insertion of pins in the finger. Unfortunately, he will be unable to play guitar for approximately six weeks. Doctors anticipate a full recovery.”

Manager’s Statement on Santana’s Condition

“Carlos is recovering well and is eager to return to the stage soon. He simply needs time to heal. Santana deeply regrets having to postpone these upcoming performances, but accidents happen, and his health remains our top priority. He is looking forward to seeing all of his fans very soon.”

Past Incidents and Recovery

In May 2022, Santana also collapsed mid-performance in Michigan due to heat exhaustion and dehydration.
He addressed the incident on Facebook, stating: “To everyone, thank you for your precious prayers. Cindy and I are doing well, just taking it easy. I forgot to eat and drink water, so I dehydrated and passed out. Blessings and miracles to you all.” That collapse led to the cancellation of six concerts.

Santana’s Legacy

Santana, recognized as one of the greatest guitarists of all time, is the recipient of 10 Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 with his band, Santana.
