Importance Score: 20 / 100 🔵

To enhance the PlayStation 5 (PS5) experience, we are introducing new features driven by player feedback. This update includes audio focus for enhanced sound clarity and the return of classic console designs for the PS5 user interface (UI), enabling users to customize their home screen with nostalgic themes.

The PS5 system software update will be available globally in phases, starting April 24.

New PS5 Features

Audio Focus: Enhanced Sound Immersion

The new audio focus feature elevates immersion by offering presets that amplify subtle sounds, providing a more distinct audio experience with headphones or headsets. This enhancement improves audio accessibility, ensuring every sound is heard.

With audio focus enabled, users can select from various preset options to clarify specific sounds, such as:

  • In-game character dialogue.
  • Subtle sound effects like footsteps and rustling grass.
  • Voices in party chats.

This creates a more engaging gaming session for all players.

How to Enable Audio Focus

  • To enable audio focus, navigate to [Settings] > [Sound] > [Volume] > [Audio Focus].
  • The feature is accessible via the Control Center for quick in-game adjustments.

Audio Focus Preset Options

Users can choose from four focus presets:

  • Boost Low Pitch: Enhances low-frequency sounds such as roaring engines.
  • Boost Voices: Amplifies voice communications, character voices, and mid-frequency ranges.
  • Boost High Pitch: Intensifies high-frequency sounds like footsteps and metallic sounds.
  • Boost Quiet Sounds: Increases the volume of softer sounds across various frequencies.

Customization Options

  • Adjust the support level for each preset (Weak, Medium, Strong).
  • Customize support levels for Left/Right channels to cater to individual preferences.

Compatibility

  • Audio focus works with headphones connected via USB or analog jack.
  • HDMI connections through TVs, AV receivers, or soundbars are not supported.

Reviving Classic Console Designs for PS5 UI

During our 30th-anniversary celebration, we offered PlayStation fans nostalgic customization options for the PS5 System UI, paying homage to the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4 consoles.

Responding to popular demand within the PlayStation community, we are reintroducing the classic console designs. This allows players to personalize their PS5 home screens with the familiar styles of these legacy systems.

The new “Appearance” setting allows players to customize their home screen’s look and feel. It can be found within the Settings menu.

We are excited to deliver these updates and encourage you to share your feedback. Let us know which features you’re most eager to experience in the comments below!
