Premier League Rival Expresses Interest in Kevin De Bruyne
A Premier League team has reportedly initiated discussions regarding the potential acquisition of Kevin De Bruyne from Manchester City. The Belgian midfielder is set to depart the reigning champions this summer, prompting interest from various clubs. Staying in England could be best for his family.
De Bruyne’s Contract Situation
- Departure Confirmed: Kevin De Bruyne is slated to leave Manchester City at the conclusion of the current season.
- Family Considerations: Reports suggest De Bruyne is hesitant to relocate his family outside of the country.
De Bruyne revealed his surprise upon being informed by City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, and CEO, Ferran Soriano, that his contract would not be extended.
Pep Guardiola was involved in the verdict, but wasn’t included when the news was broken to De Bruyne.
“There was a little bit (of shock),” De Bruyne admitted. “I didn’t have any offer from them through the whole year and the club made a decision. Obviously, I was a bit surprised, but I have to accept it. Honestly, I still think I can perform at this level like I’m showing, but I understand that clubs have to make decisions,” the Belgian added.
“I’m open for anything (next) because I have to look at the whole picture. I’m looking at sporting reasons, family and everything together and what makes the most sense for me and my family. I still feel like I can play at a good level, but after I’ll have to make a decision once I really know a little bit more.”
Possible Destinations for De Bruyne
Speculation has arisen suggesting De Bruyne might remain in the Premier League, despite earlier links to Major League Soccer (MLS) and the Saudi Pro League.
He is considering staying in the Premier League, and according to Sky Sports, Aston Villa is among the clubs that have made inquiries regarding a possible transfer.

Other Potential Suitors
The Sun reports that De Bruyne’s preference to stay in the UK, given his family’s settled status, has garnered attention from Premier League teams.
The article also indicates that Inter Miami, Chicago Fire, NYCFC, and DC United have all expressed interest in securing the Belgian midfielder.
These clubs are thought to have inquired about his professional and remuneration expectations. Como, managed by Cesc Febregas, is also reportedly monitoring the situation.
Keane’s Quip
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane jokingly suggested that De Bruyne could join the Red Devils to avoid relocating.
During Sky Sports’ coverage of City’s match against Aston Villa, Shay Given remarked, “He has lit up the Premier League for so long. Kevin will admit he is not at his peak, but you can see he still has a lot to offer. He can turn up at another Premier League club, and that is a concern for City.” Keane then quipped: “United? He wouldn’t have to move house.”
De Bruyne’s Remaining Games for City
De Bruyne has a maximum of seven matches left with City, including five league games and an FA Cup semi-final.
His participation in the Club World Cup this summer remains uncertain. While his contract extends until June 30, enabling him to play in the group stage, a final decision regarding his involvement is pending.
