Justin Thomas Confirms Joe Greiner’s Temporary Caddie Role Following RBC Heritage Victory

Despite a recent triumph at the RBC Heritage, Justin Thomas has confirmed that Joe Greiner will not continue as his permanent caddie. The golfer secured his first PGA Tour victory in nearly three years with Greiner at Harbour Town, but clarified that this was always intended as a temporary arrangement while his regular caddie recovers.

Victory at Harbour Town with Stand-In Caddie

Thomas’s recent win at Harbour Town marked a significant moment, as he edged out Andrew Novak in a playoff after both concluded the tournament at 17-under-par. This victory occurred after Thomas brought in Greiner for the Masters Tournament. This change was necessitated by an injury to his usual caddie, Matt “Rev” Minister.

Greiner became available just before the year’s first major championship after concluding his long-standing partnership with Max Homa. Homa had been experiencing a decline in performance in 2025.

Minister to Resume Caddie Duties

The temporary collaboration with Greiner proved fruitful, culminating in the win last Sunday. However, speculation about Thomas’s caddie situation was addressed when he spoke on SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio on Monday.

Thomas affirmed that Minister is expected to return to his caddie duties once he has recovered from his injury. This confirmation came shortly after Thomas secured £2.7 million at the RBC Heritage. He stated, “We all understood the situation from the outset – it was strictly a fill-in role.”

“We were extremely fortunate that Joe was available until Rev is healthy again. While I deeply value Joe, I am very eager to have Rev back,” Thomas added, emphasizing the original plan for Minister’s return.

Thomas Praises Greiner’s Contribution

Thomas conveyed his gratitude for Greiner’s contributions during his time as his temporary caddie, particularly highlighting Greiner’s role in the crucial moments at Harbour Town that contributed to their success.

“It’s been fantastic. We’ve enjoyed ourselves immensely,” Thomas communicated to the media. He further elaborated on the challenges faced by caddies, especially in temporary roles. “I believe caddies are often in a precarious position, facing criticism regardless of the outcome, and this is amplified when it’s only the second week caddying for someone.”

“Joe understands I am playing well, and I recognize his efforts to assist without being overbearing. It’s a delicate balance, but he’s been exceptional. More than anything, it’s been enjoyable because he possesses a great personality and sense of humor, which I appreciate,” Thomas explained.

Greiner and Homa’s Decade-Long Partnership Ends

Earlier in the month, Greiner and Homa concluded their ten-year partnership, a period that saw them achieve six PGA Tour titles together. “Joe and I created unforgettable memories, and I am incredibly thankful for all his dedication. We have decided to part ways, and his departure is regrettable,” Homa expressed in his announcement of the split.

Homa’s Recent Performance

Following a challenging phase marked by five consecutive missed cuts, Homa demonstrated a return to form at the Masters. He successfully played through the weekend at Augusta National, achieving a tied 12th place finish. Subsequently, he secured a 70th place finish at the limited-field event held the previous week in South Carolina.
