Management Statement on Coaching Change
‘Today, I informed Peter Laviolette and Phil Housley of our decision to make a coaching change,’ stated Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury. ‘I want to extend my gratitude to both of them and wish them and their families well in their future endeavors. Peter is a consummate professional, both on and off the ice, and I sincerely appreciate his commitment and dedication to the Rangers during his tenure as head coach.’
Drury continued, ‘After achieving the best regular-season record in the NHL last year and advancing to the Eastern Conference Final, we entered this season with significant aspirations. Regrettably, we did not achieve these goals. We must all improve, myself included. As we look towards the upcoming season and beyond, I determined that a change in coaching was necessary to provide us with the optimal opportunity to realize our organizational objectives. The search for a new head coach will commence immediately.’
