Director Matt Shakman revealed that The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be set in a “retro-future ’60s” era. Speaking at San Diego Comic Con, Shakman told attendees, “The ’60s, to me, is all about optimism. I love the Fantastic Four and their powers. Our aim is to honor the comics while also grounding the story in realism.”

Star-Studded Cast of Fantastic Four: First Steps Announced

The film boasts a prominent cast, featuring:

  • Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, Game of Thrones) as Mister Fantastic/Reed Richards
  • Vanessa Kirby (The Crown) as Susan Storm/The Invisible Woman
  • Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) as Johnny Storm/Human Torch
  • Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear) as Ben Grimm/The Thing

These four actors will portray the core members, often referred to as Marvel’s “First Family”. Adding to the ensemble are Julia Garner as Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson as Galactus. Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and John Malkovich are also part of the cast, in roles yet to be disclosed.

During their appearance at San Diego Comic Con 2024, Vanessa Kirby shared her positive experience with the cast, stating, “I don’t think I’ve laughed so much in a rehearsal period before.” She added, “When you read the comics, you feel a lot of joy, and hopefully we can bring that into the movie.” Ebon Moss-Bachrach also mentioned receiving helpful advice from Mark Ruffalo regarding motion capture, a new technique for him.
