Tyler explained that Steven Tyler, now 77, and her mother, Bebe Buell, 71, had re-established a friendship when Liv was around 8 or 9 years old. She revealed that Steven Tyler arranged to meet Buell at a Todd Rundgren performance in Boston, an encounter Liv described as “very painful” for Rundgren, 76, known for his work with Nazz and Utopia and as a solo artist.

Liv Tyler expressed her belief that Todd Rundgren was significantly affected upon learning he was not her biological father, emphasizing the emotional weight of the revelation.

“I believe it remains a difficult and sensitive matter,” Liv Tyler stated. “I don’t communicate with him sufficiently, though I have love for him and his sons, who are like brothers to me; we were a family unit. As a child, it was particularly challenging because he was upset with my mother, and then Steven appeared in the picture. After a paternity test confirmed Steven was my father, we relocated to New York. I recall being around 11 or 12 years old at that time.”

The actress, known for her role in Stealing Beauty, further mentioned that discussions about her paternity were restricted until after her move from Maine to New York. Looking back at the period before the revelation, Liv emphasized Rundgren’s dedication as a father figure. “He cared for me as my dad,” she affirmed, adding she eventually found peace knowing she was surrounded by affection. “I felt immense love,” Liv conveyed. “I was fortunate to receive a great deal of love.”

Later in the podcast, she added, “I recall contemplating the situation for what seemed like an eternity, though it was likely only a few hours, ultimately realizing, ‘Wow, I now have two fathers, and an abundance of love, perhaps even two Christmases. They are both so distinct and wonderful.’”
