Texas Rapper Tay-K Convicted of Murder in San Antonio Shooting

SAN ANTONIO – Taymor McIntyre, a Texas rapper known professionally as Tay-K and recognized for his 2017 hit single “The Race,” has been found guilty of murder for a second time. A jury convicted him in connection to the fatal shooting of a man in San Antonio. The verdict comes as a further legal setback for the artist already serving a lengthy prison sentence.

Verdict Reached in Mark Anthony Saldivar Case

Taymor McIntyre, the musician known as Tay-K, could face a life sentence with the possibility of parole after being convicted of the murder of 23-year-old Mark Anthony Saldivar. The deadly incident occurred in 2017. This conviction is separate from McIntyre’s existing 55-year prison term for a previous fatal shooting.

Details of the Saldivar Killing

According to the prosecution, McIntyre shot Saldivar during an attempted robbery. Investigators stated that McIntyre had arranged to meet Saldivar, a photographer, under the pretense of hiring him for a photo shoot related to a new musical track. Saldivar was reportedly picked up in a vehicle by McIntyre before the shooting occurred.

Defense Challenges Police Investigation

McIntyre’s legal team questioned the thoroughness of the police inquiry into the shooting. The defense argued that the case heavily relied on potentially biased testimonies from individuals who were present in the car at the time of the incident.

Defense Attorney’s Closing Argument

During closing arguments the previous week, John Hunter, one of McIntyre’s attorneys, addressed the jury stating, “Taymor McIntyre is not guilty of capital murder, murder, or manslaughter, and the reason for that is very straightforward. Investigations must be conducted properly and thoroughly. This case clearly illustrates a failure to conduct a complete investigation.”

Jury Decision and Sentencing Phase

The jury acquitted McIntyre of capital murder, a charge that carries an automatic life sentence without parole. The trial will now proceed to a punishment phase where jurors will hear additional evidence before determining the final sentence McIntyre will receive for this murder conviction.

Previous Conviction in Mansfield Home Invasion

In 2019, McIntyre was also found guilty and convicted in the death of 21-year-old Ethan Walker. This prior conviction stemmed from a home invasion in Mansfield, Texas, which is located southeast of Fort Worth, in 2016.

“The Race” Recorded While Fugitive

Notably, McIntyre recorded his breakout song, “The Race,” while he was evading law enforcement authorities in connection to the home invasion case. The track gained significant attention and contributed to his notoriety.
