Days Gone Remastered is launching on PlayStation 5 on April 25, delivering the definitive edition of the acclaimed open-world action game. Players can immerse themselves in the enhanced experience of Days Gone, featuring new game modes, fresh features, and technical improvements specifically designed for the PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles. The new gameplay options, including the intense Horde Assault mode, challenging Permadeath mode, and competitive Speedrun mode, will also be available for PC players through the Broken Road DLC. Whether revisiting the post-apocalyptic Pacific Northwest or experiencing it for the first time, Days Gone Remastered offers substantial content and discoveries for every player.

Introducing Horde Assault Mode
Horde Assault mode presents a dynamic and unpredictable gameplay experience, tasking players to achieve high scores by enduring increasingly larger hordes and diverse enemy types. Face off against formidable foes like Breakers, Reachers, and Rager bears in a constantly evolving and brutal environment. As the tagline “This World Comes For You” suggests, Horde Assault distills the core survival gameplay of Days Gone into a unique and endlessly replayable format. Start Horde Assault in Cascade armed only with a sidearm. Battle through the initial Freaker onslaught to reach your Drifter bike, an essential vehicle for navigating this open region. Scavenge for Supply Boxes scattered across the map to acquire powerful weaponry and significantly improve your odds of survival. With over 20 weapons available, including a new flamethrower exclusive to this mode, discovering a Supply Box can be the difference between life and death against the escalating hordes. Weapon drops from Supply Boxes are randomized with each new game.
While fighting for survival, replenish resources and gain bonus XP by completing Side Jobs – crucial mini-objectives that keep you in the fight. Running out of ammunition with hundreds of Freakers pursuing you is a perilous situation, and these hordes are indeed amplified. However, the challenge doesn’t stop there. Surviving for 30 minutes in any map unlocks the Ultimate Horde, a relentless and endless wave of enemies determined to hunt you down. Experience it firsthand to truly grasp the intensity.
Survival and Rewards
Progress through levels in Horde Assault to unlock in-mode rewards, including previously unplayable characters, new cosmetic patches, and unique Injectors that can dramatically alter your gameplay.
Players familiar with Days Gone will recognize Injectors and their beneficial effects from the main story. In Horde Assault, this concept is expanded with modifiers that significantly change gameplay. Ascending to Legendary Survivor status allows you to earn 24 distinct Injectors – 12 Positive and 12 Negative. Positive Injectors boost your score while increasing the difficulty, whereas Negative Injectors penalize your score but enhance your survival chances with gameplay advantages.
Without revealing the entire list, here are a couple of Injector previews:
- Exploding Freakers – Upon death, Freakers detonate. This Injector offers a strategic edge against larger hordes by turning enemies into area-of-effect damage dealers.
- Wanted – Begin at maximum heat level. In Horde Assault, difficulty escalates with survival time, but this Injector immediately initiates the highest difficulty, posing a formidable challenge for experienced players.
Horde Assault features a Reward path with 35 levels. Each level unlocks rewards such as Injectors, character skins, and cosmetic patches. These Rewards introduce six new playable characters from Days Gone, expanding the roster to include O’Brian, Lisa, fan-favorite Skizzo, and more.
Patches, familiar from the 2019 Challenges, return as cosmetic customizations for Deacon’s vest, allowing players to showcase their achievements. The Enhanced Photo Mode will be useful for capturing these. Earned patches are also usable in the story mode. Beyond the Reward path, reaching the target score in all four regions unlocks bonus Reputation Phase rewards. One highly anticipated reward addresses a top player request – a bike-related enhancement, to be revealed.
While designed as endgame content, Horde Assault is accessible immediately upon booting up Days Gone Remastered. New players are encouraged to familiarize themselves with combat and mechanics via the story mode first. However, anyone can jump directly into Horde Assault to experience the signature Freaker hordes of Days Gone. This mode adds roughly 10 hours of gameplay to an already extensive package, promising significant enjoyment within the world of Days Gone.
Availability of Horde Assault
Horde Assault becomes available on April 25, 2025, on PS5 with Days Gone Remastered and on PC via the Broken Road DLC.
