Nova Reel 1.1: Longer Videos and Consistent Style
Nova Reel 1.1, the updated iteration, is capable of producing “multi-shot” videos maintaining a “consistent style” throughout, according to AWS developer advocate Elizabeth Fuentes. Users can input prompts of up to 4,000 characters to generate videos up to two minutes long, composed of six-second segments. This enhancement allows for more complex and narratively rich video content creation.
Introducing Multishot Manual Mode for Enhanced Control
Nova Reel 1.1 also features a new “Multishot Manual” mode. This mode allows the model to utilize a reference image alongside a text prompt, providing enhanced control over the composition of video shots. Fuentes indicates that by supplying a 1280 x 720 resolution image and a prompt of up to 512 characters, users in Multishot Manual can create videos comprised of as many as 20 shots. This feature offers users greater precision in directing the visual output of the AI video model.

Nova Reel remains exclusively accessible through Amazon Web Services (AWS) platforms, including Bedrock, Amazon’s AI development suite, and requires users to request access. Like many generative AI systems, questions surround the ethical methods employed in Nova Reel’s development.
Copyright and Training Data Transparency
Generative video models are trained using extensive datasets of videos to discern patterns for creating new video content. Concerns exist that some companies train these models on copyrighted videos without proper authorization from copyright holders. This practice raises the risk of intellectual property lawsuits for users if these models reproduce copyrighted material. Amazon has not disclosed the sources of Nova Reel’s training data, and has not offered a clear mechanism for content creators to opt out of having their videos included in training datasets.
