With the anticipated launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 approaching, fresh information regarding the console continues to emerge. Key specifications for the upcoming console were largely revealed during a Nintendo Treehouse presentation on April 3. This event also served as the platform to announce “Switch 2 Welcome Tour,” a new title designed as a user-friendly tutorial for the Nintendo Switch 2’s innovative features.
According to Nintendo, “Switch 2 Welcome Tour” will incorporate “tech demos, minigames, and quizzes” for players. The game primarily focuses on showcasing the Nintendo Switch 2’s enhanced capabilities, including the ability to utilize the controller as a mouse and the improved HD Rumble technology.

The game highlights design aspects of the Joy-Con controllers. Notably, the enhanced HD Rumble functionality positions vibration motors “close to hand placement on the controllers,” intensifying the haptic feedback. Players earn medals through mini-games, which unlock further sections of the game progressively until full completion.
“Switch 2 Welcome Tour” is scheduled to launch on June 5, coinciding with the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 console. While pre-orders for the console have reportedly faced delays due to recently implemented tariffs, the official launch date remains unaffected.

Premium Tutorial Sparks Fan Concerns
“Switch 2 Welcome Tour” is anticipated to offer an engaging introduction to the new features; however, it comes with a significant drawback: it will be a paid title. While Nintendo has not yet revealed the price, fans are already expressing criticism towards the gaming giant regarding the cost of its upcoming games. The forthcoming “Mario Kart World” is slated for release around the Nintendo Switch 2 launch, priced at $80, potentially making it one of Nintendo’s most expensive titles to date.
The decision to release the tutorial game separately, rather than including it with the console (a stark contrast to Sony’s inclusion of “Astro’s Playroom” with the PlayStation 5), has reportedly disappointed a portion of Nintendo’s fanbase, prompting vocal reactions online.
Online reactions reflect this sentiment. One Reddit user questioned the “choice” of making it a paid product, arguing it “should be a built-in app.” Similarly, on a different platform, another user expressed disbelief at the “audacity” of charging for a Nintendo Switch 2 tutorial, contrasting it with the free and well-received “Astro’s Playroom”.
Some consumers have indicated interest in learning about the new control schemes but are hesitant to purchase a standalone tutorial. Instead, they plan to rely on free online resources, such as “Let’s Play” videos of the game from content creators on platforms like YouTube.
Despite online criticism, the tutorial game’s commercial success is not guaranteed to be hindered. As noted by industry analysts, a highly anticipated previous title faced substantial online complaints before launch but ultimately surpassed sales expectations, even outselling the original Nintendo Switch console upon release.
