Duck Dynasty personality Phil Robertson is reportedly facing health challenges, according to his son Jase Robertson. Concerns about the Duck Dynasty patriarch’s well-being have emerged after recent comments from his family.
Phil Robertson’s Health Condition
Jase, 55, discussed his father’s deteriorating condition on the Thursday, April 3, episode of the “Unashamed With the Robertson Family” podcast. During the podcast, Jase offered a candid assessment of Phil’s current health status.
Candid Assessment of Father’s Health
“To be frank, it hasn’t been good,” he admitted. “I’m just giving you the honest truth. I’d describe it as, ‘Not good.’” Jase’s remarks indicated a serious downturn in his father’s health.
“We are managing as best as possible,” he continued. “And I believe that’s all we can do.” He emphasized the family’s commitment to supporting Phil through this difficult period.
Phil, 78, along with his family, achieved fame through the A&E reality show Duck Dynasty, which broadcasted from 2012 to 2017. Alongside Jase, Phil’s other adult children include Alan, 60, Willie, 52, and Jep, 46, all shared with his wife Kay Robertson.
Phil Robertson’s Past Health Issues
The Duck Dynasty figurehead has faced numerous health challenges over the years, including concerns about Alzheimer’s disease, a blood disorder, and fractured vertebrae in his back. The family publicly acknowledged in December 2024 that Phil is experiencing the “early stages” of Alzheimer’s.
“According to medical professionals, they are confident that he is suffering from some kind of blood ailment that is causing a range of complications,” Jase disclosed on the podcast previously. “It has accelerated and is causing problems throughout his body.” Jase detailed the complex nature of Phil’s medical issues.
Jase further mentioned that these health problems have had a considerable mental and physical impact on his father. The cumulative effect of these conditions is taking a toll on Phil.
“He is simply not doing well,” Jase stated. “He is genuinely struggling.” The update paints a picture of Phil’s difficult health situation.
Update on Kay Robertson’s Recovery
Jase offered a more encouraging update regarding his mother, Kay, 77, who had a fall in February necessitating surgery. In contrast to Phil’s condition, Kay’s health is showing positive signs.
Kay Robertson’s Recovery from Fall
“Regarding my mother, she has improved considerably this past week, as she was in very poor condition previously,” he explained. “She developed an infection from a fall, from a wound that occurred earlier… she remains in the hospital, but [now it’s] primarily for rehabilitation, physical therapy, and encouraging her to eat.” Jase described the progress in Kay’s recovery journey.
This marks a significant improvement from the immediate aftermath of her injury, when Jase confessed to uncertainty about Kay’s survival. The family faced a period of intense worry regarding Kay’s prognosis.
“We were almost coming to terms with the possibility that this was the end,” he recounted. “That’s what it seemed like at the time. It felt very imminent. So it was a very challenging period.” Jase conveyed the gravity of the situation and the family’s anxieties.
“The individuals who are with them constantly, as we cannot be there at all times, sent me a very graphic image when she injured her leg,” Jase further shared on his “Duck Call Room” podcast in February. “It was quite shocking, it was severe. I was preparing to go on stage when I saw this picture of my mother, and I was taken aback. I thought, ‘She needs to get to the hospital immediately. I have to speak.’” Jase described the alarming nature of Kay’s injury.
In January, it was confirmed that most of the Robertson family, excluding Phil, would be returning to television screens for a Duck Dynasty revival program this summer. The Duck Dynasty legacy is set to continue with a new show.
“Returning to A&E feels somewhat like returning home,” married personalities Willie and Korie Robertson expressed in a statement. “We are grateful to everyone who has followed our family’s growth and expansion, and we are eager to begin filming again and share our new adventures, and perhaps misadventures.” The couple shared their enthusiasm for the upcoming revival series.
