Sex Pistols’ Steve Jones Recounts Farting Incident in Front of Lisa Marie Presley

Provocateur and Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones recently shared a story about deliberately passing gas in front of Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley. Jones, in a new interview, described the interaction as a test of character, detailing his flatulence in the vicinity of the late singer.

Gaseous Intentions at Starbucks

“I enjoy passing wind in front of people,” Jones, 69, disclosed to The Guardian. “You can discern someone’s temperament by their response.” He then recounted his encounter with Presley, who passed away in January 2023 at the age of 54.

“I broke wind in front of Lisa Marie Presley on one occasion,” the musician admitted. “She was seated outside a Starbucks as I was entering, and I simply let one rip.”

Presley’s Reaction and Jones’s Aftermath

According to Jones, Presley reacted to the incident with “a look on her face of utter disgust.” He nonchalantly continued, “I just kept walking into Starbucks. Is that so wrong?”

Jones Admits to Stealing David Bowie’s Gear

Beyond the Presley anecdote, the interview also covered various moments from Jones’s extensive career. Notably, he addressed longstanding rumors regarding the theft of equipment from David Bowie in 1973, during Bowie’s final Ziggy Stardust performances at the Hammersmith Odeon in London.

Confessions of a Rock ‘n’ Roll Thief

“There’s certainly some truth to those rumors. However, it wasn’t from trucks outside – it was from the stage itself,” Jones confessed. “They performed two nights, and after the first show, they left all the equipment set up for the following evening.”

The Phantom of Hammersmith Odeon

Jones elaborated on his familiarity with the venue: “I knew the Hammersmith Odeon intimately; I used to sneak in there constantly. I was like the Phantom of Hammersmith Odeon. It was around 2 AM. I pilfered a small minivan and gained entry. The venue was deserted, except for one individual asleep in about the fourth or fifth row – audibly snoring. It was completely silent.”

Details of the Purloined Items

“I crept across the stage and snatched some cymbals, the bass player’s amplifier head—a Sunn amp—and several microphones. I even acquired Bowie’s microphone, complete with his lipstick marks!”

Bowie’s Amused Response

Regarding whether he ever confessed his theft to Bowie, who died in January 2016, Jones stated, “I somewhat did, during a phone conversation. He was aware of my actions and found it comical.”

However, Jones somewhat backtracked, adding, “Actually, I don’t believe I stole anything directly from him; I doubt the microphones were even his. My remorse was primarily for Woody [drummer, Mick Woodmansey] and [bass player] Trevor Bolder.”

Making Amends with Woody

He continued, “I actually rectified things with Woody. He appeared on my radio program a few years ago, and I decided to confess live on air what I had done. I said, ‘I need to make amends to you, Woody; I stole some of your cymbals. What can I do to make it right?’ He responded, ‘I don’t know, give us a couple of hundred bucks.’ I believe I gave him $300, so he was quite pleased.”

Sex Pistols North American Tour Announced

Currently, Jones, along with fellow original Sex Pistols members Paul Cook and Glen Matlock, and vocalist Frank Carter, is preparing for the band’s newly announced North American tour. This marks their first tour in North America since 2003.

Tour Dates:

  • September 16: Dallas, TX
  • October 16: Hollywood, CA

The tour is scheduled to commence on September 16 in Dallas, Texas, and conclude on October 16 in Hollywood, California.
