Strictly Stars Karen Hauer and Gorka Marquez Announce Show Cancellation Due to Technical Issues

Strictly Come Dancing professionals Karen Hauer and Gorka Marquez have disappointed fans by abruptly cancelling a performance on their current tour. The popular dance duo, who are presently touring with their show ‘Speakeasy’, were forced to announce the cancellation of their Thursday night show in Cheltenham at the last minute due to unforeseen circumstances.

Cheltenham Performance Called Off

Karen Hauer and Gorka Marquez were scheduled to perform at Cheltenham Town Hall but released a statement expressing deep regret for having to cancel their show. The pair informed their audience of the cancellation with a message indicating their profound disappointment and understanding that many would be “upset and disappointed.”

“We are so upset to have the curtain pulled down on tonight’s show,” the dance partners stated.

Safety Concerns Arise from Technical Difficulties

The cancellation was attributed to significant “technical difficulties” encountered backstage, which presented safety risks. Despite efforts to resolve these issues, the performers were left with no option but to cancel the performance. They explained:

“We have been in the venue all afternoon with technical difficulties which have posed real safety concerns and have tried everything we can to be able to go on stage tonight.”

Prioritising the safety of their team and acknowledging the situation was beyond their control, Karen and Gorka conveyed their apologies to fans, adding:

“Of course the safety of our company comes first and this decision is beyond our control. We hope to see you very soon. The venue will be in touch with ticket holders.”

The message concluded with:

“We are as disappointed as you are. K and G”.

Fan Disappointment Over Cancelled Show

News of the last-minute tour cancellation sparked immediate reactions from attendees online. Frustrated fans voiced their disappointment on social media platforms.

  • One attendee lamented: “GUTTED. Got to the theatre to see Speakeasy and it’s been cancelled last minute! ! ! My birthday ruined.”
  • Another echoed the sentiment: “Us too got the email when we were at the pizza restaurant.”

Previous Fan Discontent over Meet and Greet Changes

The Strictly Come Dancing stars, currently engaged in their ‘Speakeasy’ tour at Ipswich’s Regent theatre and other venues, have previously faced criticism regarding changes to meet and greet sessions earlier in the month. Specifically, Karen Hauer withdrew from scheduled meet and greet events, leading to some dissatisfaction among ticket holders.

Changes to Meet and Greet Events

Attendees were notified via email that “due to scheduling difficulties,” Karen Hauer would be unable to participate in pre-show meet and greets.

The email clarified:

“Due to scheduling difficulties, Karen Hauer is unable to participate in the Speakeasy Meet and Greet, but Gorka Marquez will be your host for this exclusive and up close and personal experience.”

Refund Demands Following Meet and Greet Adjustment

The alteration to the meet and greet experience prompted some attendees to request partial refunds, particularly as they had paid an additional £84.37 for the “exclusive chance to make your Speakeasy experience something you will never forget!”. The absence of Karen Hauer from these events caused disappointment and calls for compensation.

Further Missed Meet and Greet and Tour Finale Details

Adding to fan disappointment, Karen Hauer also missed a meet and greet session in York. This occurred despite her sharing social media updates that same day showing her enjoying the city. Photographs included a visit to a café known for its edible coffee cups, further fueling fan frustration about her absence from scheduled events.

Despite these issues during the tour, behind-the-scenes footage shared by a cast member showed Karen Hauer relaxing before a performance. The ‘Speakeasy’ tour is scheduled to culminate in a final gala performance at London’s Adelphi Theatre on April 15.
