Brett Gardner, a retired Major League Baseball player and beloved former New York Yankees outfielder, and his family are grieving an unimaginable tragedy.

Gardner and his wife, Jessica Gardner, publicly announced on March 23 the passing of their son, Miller Gardner. The teenager was only 14 years old.

Sudden Illness and Peaceful Passing

In a statement released by the New York Yankees via X, the couple shared their heartbreaking news. “With profound sadness, we announce the death of our youngest son, Miller,” they wrote. “At the young age of 14, he was taken from us far too soon after becoming ill while on vacation with family.”

The Gardners added that they are seeking answers regarding the sudden illness. “We are left with countless questions and few answers at this time. We find comfort in knowing that he died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday, March 21st,” the statement continued.

Remembering Miller Gardner

Brett, 41, and Jessica fondly remembered Miller as a cherished son and brother to their elder son, Hunter Gardner, 16.

“We are struggling to imagine life without his contagious smile,” they expressed. “Miller was passionate about football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his relatives, and his friends. He embraced every day with enthusiasm.”
