Luke Littler rejected Stephen Bunting request before World Darts Championship clash

The World Championship will witness an intense showdown as Luke Littler declines an opportunity to prepare with Stephen Bunting, resulting in a semi-final encounter between the two tonight.

Set to clash at Alexandra Palace, Littler, known as ‘The Nuke’, will take on Bunting, aka ‘The Bullet’. Both players secured victories in their quarter-finals on Wednesday, with Littler defeating Nathan Aspinall and Bunting emerging victorious against Peter Wright.

Path to the Semi-Finals

This marks Littler’s consecutive semi-final appearance at Ally Pally, while Bunting replicates his best performance at the tournament, achieved previously in 2021.

Pre-Tournament Preparations

The die-hard Liverpool supporter has recently honed his skills with 2024 champion Luke Humphries. Last month, Bunting hinted at seeking Littler for practice sessions ahead of this competition.

Bunting’s Perspective

Following his victory over Wright, the 39-year-old acknowledged that Littler had not reached out. “No, he didn’t contact me,” Bunting quipped when asked about Littler’s outreach.

“Luke obviously has his own methods. His dad did speak to me about practice, but things didn’t align. I’m confident we’ll practice in the future, but it just didn’t materialize this time.”

“He is highlighting the respect for Littler and his family, while stating he had to display his optimum performance.

Despite the missed practice opportunity, Bunting emphasized that there are no ill feelings as he readies himself for their second-ever meeting.

Littler’s Stance

Contrary to allegations, Littler refuted any disrespect toward his opponent. Post his triumph over Aspinall, Littler, the tournament favorite, stated he preferred to undertake his individual preparation.

“I’m aware of his practice sessions with Luke Humphries,” Littler mentioned. “I wouldn’t say I disregarded him; I just wanted to focus on my practice at home.”

Early this year, Littler astoundingly claimed to spend only around 20 minutes daily on the practice board. He often balances his dartboard time with gaming on the Xbox and socializing with friends.

Future Encounters and Tensions

Both players have expressed that there are no hard feelings. Bunting and Littler have emphasized wanting to work together in the future, ensuring their focus remains on the game and not on off-field disagreements.
