Vernon Kay spoke with Strictly's Les Dennis 'for hours' before taking over Family Fortunes

Vernon Kay revealed that he spoke with Les Dennis “for hours” before taking over his role as host of the British game show, Family Fortunes.

The radio presenter spoke exclusively with Express.co.uk on the red carpet for The Sun’s Who Cares Wins Awards 2023.

Vernon, who hosted the show from 2006 until 2015, lifted the lid on his dream TV role and said he had “already done it.”

“I’ve done it [my dream role]. Family Fortunes. Best TV show ever,” he said.

He continued: “The beauty of it was when I got the job Les Dennis phoned me up and he was brilliant. We had a really, really good conversation.

“A good couple of hours.”

Vernon added: “We talked about the show. We talked about how you’ve got to treat it with respect. And it still happens now.”

Les Dennis, who hosted the television show from 1987 until 2002, has recently joined the cast of the 2023 series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The 69-year-old has been paired up with Nancy Xu and the couple are expected to perform a routine to ‘Don’t You Want Me’ by The Human League this Saturday.

However, during last week’s dazzling show launch, numerous viewers couldn’t help but “worry” about Les and fear that he will experience an early exit.

One person on Twitter penned: “Les Dennis, I fear he may be the runt of the litter #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing.” A second typed: “Worry for Les Dennis, I really do… #Strictly.”

Another fan chimed in: “Les Dennis is surely going to be 1st out unless someone else really messes up #Strictly.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6.15pm on BBC One.
