Olivia Dunne’s boyfriend Paul Skenes will NOT play again for the rest of this year as Pittsburgh Pirates look ahead to next season with No 1 pick… after LSU star traveled to watch him play

Olivia Dunne will not be given another chance to watch her beau in action this season, after he was pulled from the minor-league schedule until next year.

Paul Skenes was selected No 1 overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the MLB Draft, and has recently been playing in Single-A and Double-A as he prepares for life in the bigs.

Dunne was in the stands for games at both Altoona and Bradenton to watch Skenes in action, just weeks after their romance was confirmed by the pitcher.

His debut Double-A appearance did not go as planned though, as he gave up four runs on three hits in the first inning for the Altoona Curve, in a game against the Akron Rubber Ducks.

He was pulled after recording just two outs in the first inning, while walking two batters. After pulling him, Altoona went on to win the game 9-8.

Meanwhile, the Pirates placed the right-hander on the development list Tuesday, meaning he will continue training at a Pirates facility but will not appear in minor league games for the remainder of 2023.

‘We’re excited and encouraged by the positive things Paul has been able to accomplish in his short time in the Pirates organization,’ Pittsburgh general manager Ben Cherington said in a statement. ‘He’s checked all of the boxes we aimed for him to check during the 2023 season.

‘The goal now is to focus on a complete offseason in preparation for his first full professional year in 2024.’

The star pitcher at LSU – where he met Dunne – signed a contract with a record $9.2 million signing bonus after the Pirates selected him first overall.

Skenes, 21, was named National Player of the Year and National Pitcher of the Year before helping LSU prevail at the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, where he earned Most Outstanding Player honors.

In five starts with the Florida Complex League Pirates, Single-A Bradenton and Double-A Altoona, Skenes struck out 10 batters, walked two and allowed five hits and four earned runs over 6⅔ innings. All of the runs and walks came in one game, his Double-A debut.

Skenes recently confirmed his romance with Dunne to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette – opening up about their relationship and the struggles of dating while being world class athletes.

‘It’s nice, for sure,’ Skenes admitted. ‘It can be a pain in the butt sometimes, to be honest, in terms of actually going somewhere.

‘If one of us went out in Baton Rouge by ourselves, there’s probably gonna be someone there asking for something — picture, autograph, whatever.

‘It’s nice to be able to have that conversation. She does get it. I do wish she could come to a baseball game and just enjoy it. It does irk me.’

In the stands, Dunne seemed to attract attention at Peoples Natural Gas Field in the central Pennsylvania city for the contest against Akron – posting a TikTok video while showing some fans waiving to her.

She recently opted to take online classes this season due to concerns for her safety following her rise in popularity.
