Travis Barker paid a special tribute to his late friend DJ AM on the 14th anniversary of his tragic passing by sharing slew of photos on his Instagram stories on Monday.
The Blink-182 drummer, 47, who was recently seen on a romantic stroll with pregnant Kourtney Kardashian, notably collaborated with DJ AM and the pair later formed their own group called TRV$DJAM.
Barker took to his stories to pay tribute to the late star, whose real name was Adam Michael Goldstein. On August 28, 2009, he was found dead in his NYC apartment due to an accidental drug overdose at the age of 36.
He shared three black and white, throwback images of DJ AM, but chose to not add any text or caption on the photos.
The two were bonded by a tragic event when they were the sole survivors of a deadly plane crash.

Prior to that, they had the chance to perform live at numerous events together, such as the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards.
DJ AM had previously joined a group called, Crazy Town, in 1999 but two years later, he left to better focus on his own solo career.
In 2003, he had begun to find more success and also started dating Lionel Richie’s daughter, Nicole Richie.
In 2005, Blink-182 went on a hiatus, and drummer Barker eventually formed the group TRV$DJAM with Adam – who had battled drug addiction throughout his life.
They began performances at The Roxy Theater in Los Angeles in June 2008, and two months later, dropped their first mixtape online called, Fix Your Face, on August 27, 2008.
On September 19, 2008, the duo performed at a college event called the T-Mobile Block Party in Columbia, South Carolina.
Afterwards, they joined assistant Chris Baker as well as security guard, Charles Still, and two pilots to fly out of South Carolina to Los Angeles on a Learjet 60. However, shortly after takeoff, the plane experienced an emergency and crashed.
The accident was later reported to be caused by ‘faulty tires,’ per Billboard. The tragic incident killed both Baker and Still, as well as the two pilots, but Travis and DJ AM managed to escape the crash.
Due to the plane being on fire, both suffered third-degree burns and were taken to Joseph M. Still Burn Center located in Georgia for recovery. During a past interview with People, per Today, DJ AM had recalled the horrific accident.

‘When the plane was on the runway I took my shoes off and fell asleep. The next thing I remember is us crashing into something,’ he stated.
‘I woke up to Travis screaming and the plane engulfed in flames. I remember thinking it was like “Miami Vice,” where a car is on fire and you run before the gas tank explodes — we gotta get out of here!’
Adam continued, ‘Travis jerked upon the door and slid on his butt down a wing that was on fire. I tried to cover my face as I jumped through a fireball. As soon as I hit the ground, I remembered “Stop, drop and roll,” so I started rolling.’
Upon extinguishing the fire on his own body, he immediately jumped to Barker’s side to also help put out his flames.
‘My eyebrows and layers of skin were burned off my face. My forehead was gouged and my arm had skin hanging off. I was in shock and didn’t feel anything.’
During a past interview with Larry King, Travis had also recalled the terrifying moment, and stated, ‘The landing gear popped, it sounded like gunshots.’
‘It sounded like someone was shooting a gun next to my head. Then the plane just spiraled out of control. The plane would basically go up in the air, then crash down and hit the ground, then come up.’
The musician added, ‘Every time we hit the ground the flames and smoke would get bigger and before the last impact the plane was completely on fire. We were a ball of fire in the sky, and I was honestly waiting for lights out.’
Before tragedy: On September 19, 2008, the duo performed at a college event called the T-Mobile Block Party in Columbia, South Carolina
Only survivors: Both Travis and DJ AM were the only survivors of a Learjet 60 plane crush on September 19, 2008 that killed two pilots as well as assistant Chris Baker and security guard, Charles Still
Following the accident, both Travis and DJ AM chose to not step onto a plane. However, in 2021, the drummer took a flight to Italy as he overcame his fear with Kourtney Kardashian.
The flight was just his second since the crash, with his first having been a trip to Cabo. Travis had uploaded an image of the ground at night that was taken from the plane, followed by a photo of DJ AM.
During a past interview with Men’s Health, Barker stated that when DJ AM was alive, they had been, ‘each other’s therapists’ following the crash, adding, ‘it was just him and me.’
He added, ‘When he left, I was like, “Oh, f**k. I’m the only one in my club. It’s just me.” And I find my ways to deal with it.’
After the duo recovered, they each went on to focus on their careers and they both performed at New Year’s Nation L.A. 2008 New Year’s Eve bash together.
Adam also became a DJ at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas after leaving a position at Caesar’s Palace. He briefly jumped into the film industry and made a cameo appearance as himself in Iron Man 2 as a DJ at Tony Stark’s party – played by Robert Downey Jr.
He later became the host of the drug intervention reality show titled, Gone Too Far. The series aired shortly after his death.
The star battled drug addiction for years since he was a teenager, and sought sobriety and help after attempting suicide at the age of 24.

In an essay published in Glamour in January 2008, DJ AM got candid about his addiction to drugs as well as struggles with weight and food.
‘I was 14 years old and became known as “the fat kid from Philly.” I spent the next two years doing drugs every day, until I went to my mom and actually asked her to send me to rehab,’ he explained.
However, he added, ‘Unbeknownst to my mother, the place was an abusive house of horrors that would eventually be shut down.’ He was 18-years-old when he finally left.
‘When I left rehab, I’d learned nothing about recovery—I attended a few meetings, but within five months I was back doing drugs,’ and later added, ‘I started going to meetings again and distanced myself from friends who were still using drugs. The hardest thing to adjust to was deejaying sober.’
He revealed that he worked at celebrity birthday parties for stars such as Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio.
‘As the years passed, I grew stronger in recovery, but my food issues spiraled out of control. By the time I was 30, I weighed 324 pounds and hated my body more than anything,’ and chose to get ‘gastric bypass surgery.’
At the time he had penned the essay, Adam wrote, ‘I’m 34 now, and it’s been nine and a half years since I’ve had a drink or taken drugs. But every day I have to remind myself that no matter how much time I have behind me, I’m still a drug addict.’
‘At any given moment, I’m five seconds away from walking up to someone, grabbing their drink out of their hand and downing it. And if I do that, within a week, tops, I’ll be smoking crack.’
While filming MTV’s Gone Too Far, he told the network in an interview in July 2008 that he had experienced ‘a flashback’ while shooting the project.

In New York, he had gone into a convenience store and bought a crack pipe in order to show that it could easily be done.
‘My palms were sweaty. I was like, “Wait a minute, this is not smart for me to be holding this.” I started really kind of freaking out and having to kind of vent. And it kind of put that image back in my head,’ he stated, per ABC News.
He was found dead in his Manhattan apartment on August 28, 2009, and at the time, he was reportedly surrounded by drugs paraphernalia, including a crack pipe and prescription pill bottles. However, his death was later ruled an accident.
On September 2, 2009, his body was buried at the Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery located in L.A. The following day, a memorial service was held, with numerous guests in attendance, including Travis Barker, Robert Downey Jr., Lindsay Lohan, as well as Adam’s family.
