Chelsea allow players they splashed £252.5m on to leave as seventh deal set to happen

Chelsea have sent several players out on loan this summer as Mauricio Pochettino looks to trim down his bloated first-team squad. Romelu Lukaku is also expected to complete yet another short-term move away from Stamford Bridge in the coming days alongside a growing list of departures. The Blues have spent a combined £252.5million on seven of those players; Gabriel Slonina (bought for £12m), David Datro Fofana (£8m), Angelo (£13m), Andrey Santos (£18m), Hakim Ziyech (£32m), Kepa Arrizabalaga (£72m) Lukaku (£97.5m). Continue reading to find out more about the deals.

Slonina (K.A.S. Eupen)

The 19-year-old goalkeeper has joined Belgian Pro League side K.A.S. Eupen on a season-long loan after signing for the Blues last season from Chicago Fire for £12m. He is yet to feature for Chelsea in competitive action but did play in pre-season last month.

Datro Fofana (Union Berlin)

Fofana has completed a season-long loan move to Bundesliga side Union Berlin. The 20-year-old striker joined Chelsea in January from Norwegian club Molde for £8m and made four first-team appearances for the club last season.

Angelo (Strasbourg)

18-year-old Brazilian winger Angelo Gabriel has sealed a season-long loan to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg. He completed his move to Stamford Bridge from Santos for £13m this summer but has been shipped out immediately.

Santos (Nottingham Forest)

Santos joins Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan having had his UK work permit granted. The one-cap Brazil international is set for another loan spell following a return to his boyhood club Vasco da Gama for the remainder of the 2023 Serie A season after completing his £18m move to Chelsea in January.

Ziyech (Galatasaray)

Ziyech has moved to Turkish giants Galatasaray on a season-long loan, with an obligation to buy tied into the deal. The Morrocan winger was signed from Ajax for £32m back in 2020 but quickly fell out of favour at Stamford Bridge. After multiple failed attempts to sell him including a botched transfer to Al-Nassr in June, Chelsea look set to finally get the 30-year-old off their books for good.

Kepa (Real Madrid)

Real Madrid have signed Kepa on a season-long loan from Chelsea in order to provide cover for first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who suffered an ACL tear in training earlier this month. Kepa has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the arrival of Robert Sanchez and so will welcome the first team minutes at the Santiago Bernabeu. He joined Chelsea from Athletic Bilbao back in 2018 for £72m and has made 163 appearances for the club during his five seasons with the west Londoners.

Lukaku (Yet to be confirmed)

His destination is yet to be confirmed but it appears Chelsea will be forced to loan Lukaku out once again after failing to secure a permanent move away this summer. According to the Athletic, the Blues are now willing to let the Belgian striker go out on loan again providing certain terms are met. Club executives want either an obligation to buy in the deal or a straight loan with a ‘meaningful fee’.
