Domingo German entered inpatient treatment for alcohol abuse Wednesday – reportedly stemming from scenes in the Yankees clubhouse where the pitcher reportedly ‘grew belligerent’ Tuesday evening.

German was perceived to be ‘under the influence’ and lacked ‘control of his emotions’, according to SNY.

The pitcher also had confrontations with manager Aaron Boone and his Yankees teammates, a report from the Wall Street Journal later added.

During the incident, the 30-year-old reportedly flipped over a coach and smashed a television.

The team is then said to have held him in a sauna in order to get him to sweat out the alcohol before he was placed in the facility’s nap room, where the organization’s security watched over him.

German voluntarily submitted to inpatient treatment for alcohol abuse, the team confirmed Wednesday.

‘It is critical that Domingo completely focuses on addressing his health and well-being. We will respect his privacy as he begins this process,’ the Yankees said in a statement.

On Monday, German, who turns 31 on Friday, was initially scratched form a start due to discomfort in his armpit, but then entered the game against the Tampa Bay Rays in relief, throwing five scoreless innings of two-hit ball in a 5-1 loss.

New York general manager Brian Cashman told reporters German will not pitch again this season.

‘Certainly it’s a very serious issue that affects way too many people, unfortunately, and hopefully the steps that are being taken today will really benefit him for the remaining part of his life because it’s a very serious problem that you need to address head on and these treatment places are significant steps hopefully to helping him get the tools to solve it,’ Cashman said.

‘I’m just worried right now for the person and the immediate family,’ he added. ‘Domingo German has certainly been a part of the Yankee family and he’s dealing with a very serious issue and I certainly think we’re all going to keep him in our prayers as he takes very important but necessary steps in trying to deal with this problem.’

In September 2019, the right-hander allegedly slapped his then-girlfriend, now-wife Mara Vega

The 30-year-old allegedly has previously domestically abused his now-wife, Mara Vega, while intoxicated. The pitcher allegedly slapped Vega at a 2019 event but it was what happened later that sparked an MLB investigation, according to The Athletic.

An intoxicated German allegedly became violent with Vega when they returned home to the extent that she had to seek refuge by locking herself in a room.

Although she never reported the incident to the police, an MLB investigation resulted in an 81-game suspension for German for a breach of the league’s domestic violence policy.

The suspension, one of the longest issued under the policy which came into force in 2015, was reportedly a settlement between the league, MLBPA, and German, who did not appeal the punishment.
