Outrage grows as Kohl's stores offer LGBTQ clothing for babies

Retailer Kohl’s appears to be the latest brand to have begun catering to the ‘woke crowd’ for promoting and selling LGBTQ+ apparel for infants at the struggling company.

Outrage on social media over the store’s decision has grown with some calling for boycotts similar to other brands that have recently promoted ‘woke’ ideals.

One Twitter account put it succinctly: ‘Looks like another company needing Bud-lighting!’

Kohl’s has already seen its stock shares lose almost half their value in 2022 and it was almost bought out by JCPenney. Now, they appear to be following Bud Light and Target and could soon face massive backlash over the campaign.

Conservatives took notice recently of the chain offering in-store and online onesies for infants showing the LGBTQ+ pride flag on them, specifically tailored to June, which is known internationally as Pride Month.

‘Celebrate the joy that comes from living authentically and unapologetically during Pride month and all year long with this Baby Sonoma Community® Pride Bodysuit Set,’ reads the online description.

The popular ‘End Wokeness’ Twitter account led the charge against the product, writing: ‘Kohl’s is pushing LGBTQ Pride for literal babies’ and added ‘Looks like Kohl’s didn’t learn a thing from Bud Lite and Target.’

A YouTuber who goes by ‘Twisted Luck Truth’ posted a video that was also shared on TikTok criticizing Kohl’s LGBTQ in-store merchandise, claiming the social media site took it down.

The account showed off various pieces of pride merchandise throughout one unknown Kohl’s location, including a t-shirt that proclaimed ‘BELONG BELIEVE BE PROUD’ with a Mickey Mouse logo in silhouette.

Conservative influencer Benny Johnson wondered ‘why is Kohl’s selling ‘Pride Merch’ for three-month-old babies?’

‘Wouldn’t it be nice if Target and Kohl’s also offered toddler wear that had pictures of the American Flag? Patriots? Eagles?’ asked another account.

One more liberal content creator defended Kohl’s in the wake of the boycotts against other companies and stated the company should stand its ground.

‘Kohl’s please stand your ground and keep your pride collection. I’m sick of gun hungry bigots acting like not being straight is killing kids, when we all know what happens EVERY F***ING DAY IN THIS COUNTRY.’

Kohl’s move comes as many are attempting a boycott of various big name brands over displays of solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community, which many are seeing as a progression of ‘woke’ ideology.

Anheuser-Busch has seen its market value plunge $15.7billion since the disastrous campaign with transgender Mulvaney began on April 1.

Target has pulled some of the most controversial items from its Pride collection in the face of a ‘Bud Light’ style boycott, but is doubling down on its commitment to LGBTQ causes and blaming ‘volatile’ complaints for its decision.

Target said it had pulled some of the items that have ‘been at the center of the most confrontational behavior.’

‘Since introducing this year’s collection, we’ve experienced threats impacting our team members’ sense of safety and wellbeing while at work,’ Target said in a statement.

‘Given these volatile circumstances, we are making adjustments to our plans, including removing items that have been at the center of the most significant confrontational behavior,’ crisis communications manager Kayla Castaneda said.

The company did not specify which items had been taken off shelves. Many of the swimsuits, onesies and t-shirts that sparked outrage remain available online.

Target has lost $10billion in market cap in just 10 days and has seen its stock price tumble to its lowest mark in years in wake of its Pride offerings.

Kohl’s push to offer LGBTQ clothing comes after the struggling department store chain posted a surprise profit earlier this week, amid widespread downfall in the retail market.

Big name stores such as Walmart, Sears and Walgreens are shuttering in their droves across the country, while 50-year-old discount home goods chain Bed Bath & Beyond filed for bankruptcy in February.

In contrast to other chains, which have been hit by the so-called ‘retail apocalypse’ sweeping the nation, Kohl’s said it is not considering downsizing plans at this time.

Instead, it is focusing on implementing new business strategies and drawing in customers with its revamped stores and merchandise.
