Coronation Street's Ellie Leech opens up on 'emotional' final scene with co-star

Coronation Street youngster Faye Windass (played by Ellie Leech) has been torn between staying with fiance Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) or leaving with ex-boyfriend Jackson Hodge (Joseph William Evans) and daughter Miley Hodge (Frankie-Jae Simmonds).

In upcoming scenes, despite being blackmailed by Craig to stay with him Faye leaves Weatherfield for good to start a new life in Slough.

Actress Ellie Leech recently opened up about filming her last scenes with Colson and told Express.co.uk and other press it was “emotional.”

She explained: “Very emotional, I think obviously, it is Faye leaving the street after 12 years but it’s also me leaving the street after 12 years as well.

“I think the saddest part of the scene is we’re in a taxi, we’re on our way and then we just see Craig on his own just walking up the street.

“Faye is like ‘Stop the car’, she gets out and she’s like ‘I’ll always love you, I always have and I always will’ and I think that is just… it was so emotional.

“I think you do see that there are two people here who do love each other but there are so many other factors, love isn’t always enough and I think we see that in that scene.”

Ellie also touched on her close relationship with Colson outside of work and admitted that filming scenes with him is always easy.

“Colson is my best mate, we have a laugh all the time no matter what scene it is, whether we are crying heartbroken, or having fun, we are always having a laugh.

“We have worked together for so many years now that we just just each other and yeah he can be horrible but as soon as it’s cut it’s back to conversation again.

“I think it is also good because we are so close as friends we can do those hard-hitting scenes and be normal afterwards.”

Desperate for Faye to stay, Craig ends up blackmailing her over the incident with Ray Crosby (Mark Frost), leaving her worried she will be going back to jail.

Ellie admitted that Faye becomes worried and begins to see Craig in a different light, rather than the sweet and sensitive guy that he has been to her over the years.

She said: “I mean I think everyone knows that Craig is this kind of fun-loving character, we have never really seen him react like that before, he is always just so nice and everything is just la-di-da with him.

“So I feel like she definitely feels like ‘Where has this person come from, who is this person?’, and I think as much as it drives her to stay because she’s scared of that getting out, it is also driving her further and further away.

“She doesn’t want to be in a relationship with someone who is literally blackmailing her but also she can’t not be in that relationship because then people will find out what actually did happen.

“Then she has the fear of going back to prison which she would never want to do, so yeah I think she definitely sees him in a different light.”

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8pm on ITV.
