Two men, ages 19 and 26, are dead and three others have been hospitalized after a shooting in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago.
Crime continues to plague the Windy City, up a stunning 42 percent from this point in 2022, despite murder being down 14 percent as ‘progressive’ mayor Brandon Johnson is set to be inaugurated after beating incumbent Democrat Lori Lightfoot.
The shooting took place at around 5:35 p.m. Thursday as two people got out of an unidentified vehicle and shot at a group of people on the 600 block of West 61st Place.
Five people were hit, according to the Chicago Police Department. The offenders fled the area and are still at large.
The two victims ranged in ages from 17 to 26 years old. A witness and cousin of one of the victims said that they were ‘enjoying the nice weather’ in front of a relative’s house when they were shot.

‘A vehicle approaching Union, two individuals exited that vehicle and the two individuals began firing down the street striking five individuals,’ said Chicago police deputy chief Matt Cline.
The 19-year-old victim was hit in the shoulder and later pronounced dead at University of Chicago Hospital.
The 26-year-old was hit ‘in the body’ according to police and was later pronounced dead at the same hospital.
The three other victims – a 17-year-old male, 21-year-old male and 26-year-old female – were all sent to local hospitals.
The 17-year-old and 21-year-old were described as being in ‘good condition’ while the woman’s condition was listed as unknown. NBC Chicago said she was listed as ‘stable.’
Authorities said that some children were around during the shooting, but none were injured.
A Chicago Sun-Times photojournalist spotted a woman crying as police carried away a couple of children’s scooters.
Police have blocked off about half the block where the shooting took place. Dozens of casings were said to be left at the scene and found on the lawn of a home.

A woman, who wouldn’t give her name, said that she’s been living there since 1978 and says things have changed in crime-ridden Chicago.
‘It seems the new generation doesn’t care about the future,’ she said. ‘They lost hope.’
Police are still investigating with the shooters remaining at large.
