Beloved actress Jacklyn Zeman, known for her portrayal of Bobbie Spencer in the hit soap opera “General Hospital,” has died at 70 years old, according to the show’s executive producer.
“Just like her character, the legendary Bobbie Spencer, she was a bright light and true professional that brought so much positive energy with her to work,” Frank Valentini said in a statement on Twitter.
“Jackie will be greatly missed, but her positive spirit will always live on with our cast and crew. We send our heartfelt sympathy to her loved ones, friends, and family, especially her daughters Cassidy and Lacey.
Details on her cause of death were not revealed.
Zeman appeared in more than 800 “General Hospital” episodes across 40 years, earning an “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series” Daytime Emmy nomination for her role as Nurse Spencer.
“Jacklyn Zeman has been a beloved member of the ‘General Hospital’ and ABC family since she originated the iconic role of Bobbie Spencer over 45 years ago,” the show said on Twitter. “She leaves behind a lasting legacy for her Emmy-nominated portrayal of the bad girl turned heroine and will always be remembered for her kind heart and radiant spirit.
Zeman, a New Jersey native, started acting in high school and attended New York University, where she studied dance before she landed her first major television role on “One Life to Live” as Lana McClain.
She is survived by her two children, Cassidy and Lacey.
