Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, and Faro, the capital of Portugal’s Algarve tied for first place as the healthiest city for expats.

But why is Stockholm such a healthy place to live? The Swedish diet is reasonably healthy and people have access to lots of fresh fish and produce. However, sweets are taken very seriously in Sweden and the capital is packed with pick and mix shops.

Stockholm has plenty of green space and very low air pollution making it easy for residents to get out and exercise.

Kungliga Djurgården is an island in the centre of the city and one of its biggest parks. The huge open space is also packed with museums.

A tourist ‘tmdowney69’ wrote on Tripadvisor: “Absolutely beautiful. Stockholm is such a clean and beautiful city.”

Tourists will find the Abba Museum and Skansen, an open air museum with its own animals, on the island.

During summer, expats will find Stockholm’s light and bright with the sun rising as early as 3:30am.

However, new residents may struggle during winter when the city has much shorter daylight hours than in the UK.
