Steven Crowder is seen on disturbing Ring footage verbally abusing his then-heavily pregnant wife

Disturbing new video footage shows YouTube star Steven Crowder berating his heavily-pregnant wife for not ‘performing her wifely duties.’

The video, obtained by journalist Yashar Ali and posted on his Substack, shows Steven Crowder demanding his wife Hilary, who was then nearly eight months pregnant with twins, do something involving the couple’s dogs involving ‘putting on gloves.’

He also says she should ‘perform wifely duties’ as he asks her not to take their only car to go grocery shopping because he would be left stranded at home and could not go to the gym.

And when Hilary tells Steven ‘your abuse is sick,’ he snaps back: ‘Watch it. F***ing watch it.’

The couple is in the midst of a public divorce acrimonious divorce.

The Ring camera footage, taken on June 26, 2021, shows Steven sitting on their back patio smoking as Hilary, wearing a shirt showing off her large bump, prepares to leave the house.

As she reaches for the keys, Steven could be seen insisting she not take their only car, saying: ‘I drew a boundary. You are not taking the car.’

When Hilary asks why she can’t take the car to get groceries, Steven replies: ‘Because if you refuse to do wifely things then I will go get the groceries.’

He also asks her whether she respects men, to which she replies that she does.

Apparently trying to reach an agreement, she asks if he would be more comfortable if she got somebody to pick her up, to which Steven suggests she take an Uber.

Getting visibly more irritated, he explains if Hilary takes the car, he cannot go to the gym or see his parents or his friends.

‘The only way out of this is discipline and respect,’ he could be heard telling Hilary. ‘It’s the only way out of this.’

At that point, Hilary, seemingly growing ever more frustrated, tells Steven: ‘I love you. But Steven, your abuse is sick.’ She says, ‘I love you. I love you very much.’

But Steven says her love is ‘disingenuous,’ arguing that if she is committed to their marriage, she should put gloves on to give the dogs medicine.’

Eventually, Hilary decides to leave the situation, after which, Ali reports based on witness testimony, Steven got even angrier and yelled ‘I will f*** you up.’

Ali reports both Hilary and Steven said he immediately pulled back when he realized what he said, but at that point Hilary was afraid and left.

What does Texas law say about no-fault divorce?

  • In Texas, a divorce is not final for at least 60 days after a petition is filed. It typically takes up to six months to one year or longer to finalize a divorce, depending on the complexity of the issues and the degree of conflict.
  • Texas does not recognize legal separation. This means that even when you are living apart from your spouse, all of the property you or your spouse acquire is community property—regardless of the way it is titled—and all debt you or your spouse acquire is community debt. Essentially, you are married until you are legally divorced.
  • Texas law allows for ‘no-fault’ divorce, which means the spouse filing for divorce does not have to prove any fault, wrong doing or marital misconduct on the part of the other spouse. However, a judge may take fault into consideration when determining what is a fair division of the parties’ marital property.
  • A divorce can cost anywhere between hundreds to thousands of dollars, with the average running somewhere between $15,000 to $30,000.

By December of that year, Ali reports, Hilary filed for divorce, after learning that her husband had hired a divorce attorney a month earlier.

Crowder then announced on his podcast, Louder with Crowder, Tuesday that he is in the process of getting a divorce.

‘I have been living with a proverbial boot on my neck for going on years now,’ Crowder said.

‘Since 2021, I’ve been living through what has increasingly been a horrendous divorce.’

Crowder said that his marriage ended for reasons linked to naturally growing apart, rather than any infidelity or abuse.

‘And no, this was not my choice,’ he added. ‘My then-wife decided that she didn’t want to be married anymore and in the state of Texas, that is completely permitted.’

Crowder called it the most heartbreaking experience of his life and considers the divorce his ‘deepest personal failure.’

He went on to say that he and his ex-wife Hilary decided to keep the divorce issue private for the safety of their two children.

‘In all this, one thing I wanna be really clear about is certain. True north here is that my children are blameless, completely without fault, and so we decided to resolve these issues privately as it’s in their best interest both emotionally and physically to do so.’

It is as yet not clear if the divorce has been finalized yet but Crowder says that it has been an issue that he has been dealing with for ‘years.’

‘I loved a woman so much that I married her,’ said Crowder.

‘A woman who, despite all of this, I still love as the mother of my children and she wanted something else for her life.

‘That’s not my choice, she simply wanted out and the law says that that’s how it works.’

But, speaking to Ali, Hilary’s family said she had faced verbal abuse from Steven for years before they decided to get a divorce.

Audio files Ali said he reviewed, reportedly show Steven admitting to having a volcanic temper. Those admissions though, sources told Ali, would only come after a sustained period of mental and emotional abuse.

They said Steven did not seem to be able to control his impulses.

In a statement to Ali, Hilary’s family said she is now living alone in Dallas, ‘apart from her family and support system in Michigan, and is focused on taking care of her young children.

‘She is not prepared at this time to speak about her divorce becoming public or the misleading statements made by Steven about their relationship,’ the statement continues.

‘The truth is that Hilary spent years hiding Steven’s mentally and emotionally abusive behavior from her friends and family while she attempted to save their marriage,’ the family said. ‘She was the one who was asking to work on their relationship to keep the marriage intact for their unborn children.

‘In June of 2021, Steven left their home to pursue elective surgery,’ the family members said.

‘Hilary urged him to get the help he needed to address his abuse with the hope that their marriage could be saved and they could peacefully live together as a family. Instead, Steven refused to do so and chose not to be with his wife during the birth of their twin children.’

‘After the birth, Steven bought a townhouse and left their home permanently,’ the family continued.

‘Hilary was unaware that Steven had hired a divorce attorney and asked his assistant to cut Hilary off financially. There is significant documentation substantiating these facts.

‘We hope that Steven will cease speaking publicly about these personal matters in an untruthful manner.

‘We also look forward to there being full transparency in the legal process so there is fairness and accountability for the actions that caused the divorce, and to ensure the outcome is what is in the best interests of the young children.’
