Mets’ Pete Alonso, Tomas Nido and Luis Guillorme raise drink to Rangers at Garden

It wasn’t quite like the Jets and their beer-chugging tradition at the Islanders’ playoff game, but at least three Mets attended — and consumed a drink at — Game 4 of the Rangers-Devils series Monday night.

First baseman Pete Alonso, catcher Tomas Nido and infielder Luis Guillorme were all in stands as the Rangers lost, 3-1, to the Devils, according to a video from SNY.

All three appeared to take a drink of their beverage while on the Madison Square Garden jumbotron, though it wasn’t clear if they chugged the whole thing — as has become popular athletes tradition — because their appearance was a short one

Last week, as the Islanders played their first postseason game at UBS Arena, Chris Streveler, Max Mitchell, Chris Glaser, Jeremy Ruckert, Tyler Conklin, and Kenny Yeboah from the Jets attended, continuing on the chugging tradition that former Jets offensive lineman Dan Feeney established in their most recent playoff berth in 2021.

The Mets had a day off Monday following their West Coast road trip — where they went 7-3 — ahead of a seven-game homestand, which begins Tuesday night against the Nationals.

Alonso finished the weekend second in MLB for home runs with 10, trailing the Dodgers’ Max Muncy by one, and he has hit .267 with an National League-best 23 RBIs.

Nido has progressed up the Mets’ catching depth chart and spliting time with Francisco Alvarez following an injury to Omar Narvaez — with Nido even starting the home-opener at Citi Field — but he has managed just five hits in 41 at-bats.

And Guillorme, a backup infielder, has played in 16 games for the Mets at second base, shortstop and third base.

Monday’s loss completely erased the Rangers’ 2-0 lead that they had built with victories in Games 1 and 2 at the Prudential Center.

Vincent Trocheck scored in the third period to even the game at 1, but Jonas Siegenthaler snapped the tie seven minutes later — and Ondrej Palat added an empty-net goal in the final two minutes — to secure New Jersey’s second consecutive victory at the Garden.
