A mother has received backlash on TikTok for keeping her dog after it bit her small child, leaving her daughter with scars and needing stitches on her face.

The mom, called Klara Tsetkin on the video sharing platform, defended her decision to not have Bart the dog taken away or put down after he bit her three-year-old daughter Milana.

Though Klara claims that the cocker spaniel bit her child, she argued on TikTok that he ‘never attacked’ her daughter, and alleges that it acted in self-defense.

‘He was very sick!’ she said in one video. ‘And tries to hide under the bed.. his hind legs gave out and he couldn’t crawl away..’

‘(Our) 3 year old daughter did not understand that the dog needs to rest today and not touch him… she began to touch him even more, sit on him and climb into his face and hurt him…’

The video is captioned: ‘When someone asks me – will you regret that you are divorcing your husband because he wants to get rid of the dog?’

Many TikTok users were not impressed, with some arguing that Klara’s decision to keep her pet meant her dog was ‘more important than [your] daughter’.

Her little girl, now five and a half, was bitten by Bart just over three years ago, and her mother shared a series of clips showing how her skin has healed since then.

‘For those who asked to see how the scar looks now after a dog bite,’ Klara said.

She added that Milana still has a visible scar on her face due to the way the procedure took place.

‘The doctor did not tighten the stitches to the end due to a possible infection, so the scar turned out to be wide.

‘We are planning to do a scar resurfacing. If there are those who want to help our princess, we will be eternally grateful,’ she said at the time, providing a link to a fundraiser page.

Meanwhile, other users argued people calling for the dog to be removed or destroyed were ‘overreacting’ to the mom’s decision to keep her pet.

According to the CDC, 800,000 people in the US seek medical attention for dog bites every year, half of which are children.

Bites are most common among children ages five to nine and kids under four years old are most likely bitten in the head or neck due to their height.

Klara was contacted for comment.
