Brooke Shields says The Blue Lagoon’s director Randal Kleiser reached out to her in new interview… following the release of her bombshell documentary

Brooke Shields revealed that the director of The Blue Lagoon, Randal Kleiser, reached out to her following the premiere of her documentary Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields in a teaser for Tuesday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show.

The 57-year-old model told the program’s host that, although the 76-year-old filmmaker wanted to speak with her, she was not sure if she was ready to have a conversation about their past.

The actress, who recently revealed that she had been taken off Tom Cruise’s cake list, opened up about her mistreatment at the hands of the entertainment industry in her new feature, which was released earlier this month.

When Barrymore asked if any of the male directors she previously worked with had reached out to her to discuss their past, Shields expressed that she recently received a call from Kleiser.

She stated: ‘I saw his name on my phone, and I was like, “oh, what do I do?” And I let it go to voicemail because I was like, “I want to see what the tone is.”‘

The performer then stated that she did not feel as if she wanted to discuss their experiences at the time.

‘He wants to chat. I don’t know about what, I don’t feel like bringing any of it back up again,’ she said.

Shields went on to remark that she felt as if she was functionally exploited during her early years as a performer.

‘It was about, you know, these males needing me to be in a certain category to serve their story and it never was about me, it was never protective of me,’ she said.

She concluded by stating that, although she did have certain fond memories from her early years as an actress, she had come to view many of her past experiences in a negative light.

‘It was fun and loving at times, but…I was just there. I was a pawn, I was a piece, I was a commodity,’ she said.

Shields was just 14 when she began working on The Blue Lagoon, which was released in 1980.

The performer appeared topless during one part of the movie, although her breasts were covered by her hair.

The movie was met with widespread criticism from reviewers, many of whom found its depiction of the young characters’ burgeoning sexuality to be particularly troubling.

Shields’ experience of working on the feature was discussed in Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields, which premiered last Monday.

The wide-ranging two-part series tackled a wide range of subjects, including the exposure she received after appearing in features such as The Blue Lagoon, Pretty Baby and Endless Love.
