Ryan Reynolds leaves locals stunned after 'buying £1.5million home in sleepy Welsh village'

The residents of Marford, North Wales have been left gob-smacked after Ryan Reynolds snapped up a property in their sleepy village.

According to The Sun the actor – who is said to be worth £120 million – bagged himself a £1.5 million home as he commits to Wales after taking control of nearby Wrexham football club.

A source told the publication: ‘The most famous person from Marford is Tim Vincent from Blue Peter, so a Hollywood star is a step up!’

The Deadpool star is believed to have splashed out on a four-bedroom home where he will be joined by wife Blake Lively, 35 and their children James, eight, Betty, six, and Inez, three, as well as their fourth baby born earlier this year.

The source added: ‘Ryan is moving to Marford and it’s all the locals can talk about. His house is on the poshest road.’

‘It might not be the Big Apple but the red carpet will be rolled out when Ryan comes to town.’

Ryan is the second star to reside in the area, after Wrexham born Blue Peter star Tim, who made a name for himself hosting the children’s programme and The Clothes Show.

He has since jumped the pond and lives in Los Angeles where he presents Access Hollywood and Phenomenon.

MailOnline have contacted Ryan’s reps for comment.

Ryan, along with co-chairman Rob McElhenney, have helped transform Welsh team Wrexham FC, and have had huge success documenting their progress in season one of their documentary series, ‘Welcome to Wrexham.’

In August last year Ryan revealed his wife was not particularly happy when he told her the he had bought the Welsh team with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor Rob.

In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he said: ‘I remember seeing Blake, saying, “I have bad news and I have really bad news. I slipped into someone’s DMs again. The really bad news is that I might have bought half of a fifth tier national football league in Wales.”‘

However, Blake has been snapped cheering on Ryan’s club. In May last year the couple watched Wrexham take on Bromley during the Buildbase FA Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium in London.

The pair bought the club back in 2020. Since then they have put Wrexham and its once struggling club firmly back in the spotlight.

They reached the Wembley final in 2022 and narrowly missed out promotion after finishing second in the National League.

The club’s duo are also striving to give women’s football a boost and recently announced they will attend Wrexham ladies team’s match against local rivals Connah’s Quay Nomads tomorrow.

The famous owners will joined by more than 7,000 fans attending the match after a record number of tickets were sold.

And the Hollywood stars face their biggest match yet as Wrexham owners when they take on Notts County at home on Monday in a promotion six-pointer.

The two clubs are level on points at the top of the National League, with just one automatic promotion spot available back to the Football League.

For A-listers Ryan and Rob, going up would realise an ambition that they set on buying the club in February 2021 and which — as this column can reveal — has cost them well over £10million.

Wrexham’s latest accounts, to the end of June 2022, show that in addition to the £2m paid to buy the club, Ryan and Rob had injected over £5m more before this season. Of that, £3.67m was to cover the repurchase of the freehold of the club’s Racecourse Ground, while another £1.2million was invested in the form of shares.

The pair, who have gained global attention thanks to their documentary, also spent £132,032 on takeover costs and wrote off a related party balance of £40,092.

Ryan can afford to splash the cash after he got a huge boost to his bank account when T-Mobile purchased Mint Mobile, which Ryan owns a partial stake in, for $1.35 billion.

The business is just one of many Ryan has ploughed his money and expertise into over the past few years.

The Canadian star’s first acting job was on a teen soap called Fifteen where he earned just $150 an episode, it’s a far cry from his bank balance now with the 45-year-old thought to be worth a whopping $150million.

While his acting success, especially in box office hits like Deadpool, have boosted his fortune, the savvy star has also made some shrewd investments over the years.

Ryan branched outside of acting in 2018 when he became a shareholder in Aviation American Gin.

He became the brand’s creative director and board member but just two years later he sold to European beverage company Diageo for an estimated $610 million. As part of the deal Ryan will retain an ‘ongoing ownership stake.’

Also in 2018, the star co-founded a production company and marketing agency, Maximum Effort, with his friend George Dewey, who worked closely together on the marketing for Ryan’s movie Deadpool.

Since then the agency has produced hugely successful viral ads for Ryan’s other brands and movie releases while it’s also reportedly developing a live-action adaptation of the board game Clue.

Ryan is a board member at Match Group, which owns and operates the largest global portfolio of popular online dating services including Tinder, Match.com and Hinge.

Through his Maximum Effort agency, Ryan has produced viral ads for the company featuring music from his close pal Taylor Swift.

Ryan is also an investor in online Canadian wealth management service Wealthsimple which has a valuation of $5billion. In 2021 he was part of a group who made a $750 Million investment into the company.

Ryan’s also juggling his work with Canadian password management software, 1Password, for which he serves as the frontman in advertisements. The company is valued at $6.8 billion.
