Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh stepped out in a bright pink coat for today’s Easter service in Windsor. Eagle-eyed royal fans noticed this was not a new coat for Sophie she was last photographed wearing it in 2012. But it was her hat and boot combination today that got many talking.
Sophie’s coat is believed to be from Catherine Walker, the same designer as Kate, Princess of Wales’ blue coat today.
She accessorised her outfit with a large beige hat, which is from the brand Philip Treacy.
It boasted a wide asymmetrical brim and eye-catching height, which some fashion fans didn’t like.
She matched the hat with a pair of beige knee-high boots and a clutch bag in suede.

One commented on Twitter: “Terrible hat”. Another suggested: “I love Sophie but she really needs someone to help her dress. The hat and boots don’t go.”
Someone else joked Sophie was wearing a “mad hatters hat” and another said “the hat is very silly”.
“Thats a Boy George type hat. A rare miss-step from Sophie – including the matching boots,” one wrote online.
But many loved what Sophie wore today: “She always look stylish.”
“She looks lovely in pink,” one tweet read.
Sophie was joined by her husband, The Duke of Edinburgh and son, James, Earl of Wessex for today’s Easter service at St. George’s Chapel.
Lady Louise Wessex was absent from the public engagement, presumably because she is staying at university for the Easter break.
Duchess Sophie was not the only royal to wear a Philip Treacy for Easter Sunday, Queen Camilla also chose one but in blue.
Philip Treacy has been making hats for the female members of the Royal Family for decades.

In 2011, his brand exploded onto the scene when 36 of the hats at Kate and William’s royal wedding were his designs.
He was also behind Princess Beatrice’s controversial but memorable headwear choice for the wedding, which some called the ‘pretzel hat’ while its creator called it a ‘bow’.
The designer said he owes his career to the royals, explaining to Tatler: “If the Royal Family decided not to wear hats… then I wouldn’t be sitting here having this conversation with you, because hats are part of the culture of Britishness.”
When Meghan Markle made her Royal Ascot debut a couple of years ago, she opted for a Givenchy collared dress with buttons down the front.
Following the strict Royal Ascot rules, Prince Harry’s wife chose a hat for the occasion, designed by Philip Treacy himself.
The black and white creation had a sweeping brim and an eye-catching black bow.
