Michelle Obama attempted to go incognito as she stepped out in Sydney on Wednesday during her visit Down Under with her husband, former US president Barack Obama.

Mrs Obama, 59, kept a low profile in a green hoodie and sunglasses as she explored the city before the couple made their way to a private BridgeClimb walk across the famous Harbour Bridge.

The former First Lady flaunted her fit figure in a green T-shirt, matching coloured leggings and comfortable sneakers.

She was followed by several Secret Service operatives as she made her way out of her five-star hotel. 

The couple were been given special permission to climb Sydney Harbour Bridge without safety harnesses.

The casually-dressed couple scaled the world-famous landmark as they prepared to leave Sydney to continue Mr Obama’s speaking tour in Melbourne.

A spokesman for BridgeClimb referred inquiries to Transport for NSW, stating that authority had ‘facilitated’ the visit, which included the Obamas’ Secret Service minders.

The Obamas arrived about 10am before ascending 1,332 steps along the arch and standing 134m above the water with 360 degree views of the harbour.

After completing the walk, Mr Obama was seen accepting a souvenir BridgeClimb cap and talking to workers clad in high-visibility clothing.

Mrs Obama recently revealed her diet secrets during an interview with the HuffPost.

She said she starts the day with breakfast, followed by a snack of vegetables or fruit and a protein shake.

‘Lunch is my biggest meal. Like today, I had fish and stir-fried vegetables. And if I’m going to have a carb, like a brown rice or a potato or something, I’ll have it at lunch,’ she continued.

She said for dinner she usually has a ‘meat, a grain, vegetables and salad.’

‘If I’m trying to be lean I’ll just do a salad. And if I’m hungry I’ll add a protein on top of that,’ she explained.

The former First Lady and President arrived in Australia on Sunday night by private jet.

Sydney is the first stage of a whistle-stop tour that will also see the former president speak in Melbourne on Wednesday.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese hosted the Obamas at Kirribilli House on Monday morning.

The presidential pair were all smiles as they posed together for the camera, taking in the view by the harbour while holding black umbrellas amidst a subtle drizzle.

‘Honoured to welcome President @barackobama to Sydney,’ Albanese captioned the post to Twitter, which has since been viewed more than one million times. 

Obama’s last official visit to Australia was for the G20 Summit in Brisbane in November 2014 – and prior to disembarking a private jet with Michelle on Sunday, had not been seen in public with his wife since last year.
