Marvin Jones Jr. agrees with Detroit Lions with 'one-year, $3 million contract' after Jaguars stint

Veteran wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. is set to reunite with the Detroit Lions with ‘one-year, $3 million contract’ two seasons after leaving to join Jaguars

Veteran NFL wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr. is signing one-year, $3 million contract that can be worth up to $5 million with the Detroit Lions, according to multiple reports.

Jones spent the last two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars where he caught 119 passes for 1,361 yards and seven touchdowns.

In 2021, he led the team with 73 receptions, 832 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns.

He previously spent four years in Detroit during the 2016-2020 seasons. During that time, he posted the only 1,000-yard season of his career in 2017.

That season he caught 61 passes for 1,101 yards and led the NFL with 18.0 yards per catch.

In his final season in Detroit he finished just shy of the mark recording 978 yards and nine touchdowns.

The 33-year-old was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the fifth-round of the 2012 draft.

Jones will be expected to help fill the void left by DJ Chark’s departure to the Carolina Panthers.

The Lions are in a much different position than they were years ago during Jones’s first stint in town, when they were continuously finishing seasons as one of the worst teams in the NFL.

Detroit finished 9-8 last season and narrowly missed the playoffs at the end of the year.

Jared Goff has been a competent QB and wide receiver Amon Ra St-Brown has emerged as one of the league’s best young wide outs.

The team also drafted WR Jameson Williams in the first-round last year and he will now be a full year recovered from ACL surgery.

The team also signed running back David Montgomery to split carries with incumbent RB D’Andre Swift.
