JoJo Siwa seemingly shades Nickelodeon for its response to her coming out

JoJo Siwa takes apparent swipe at Nickelodeon over network’s ‘response’ to her coming out as LGBTQ+ – and claims she was asked: ‘What are you gonna tell your young demographic?’

  • Siwa, 19, implied she received pushback from network over public reveal
  • She said she insisted she would live her truth regardless of pushback
  • A Nickelodeon spokesman told Dailymail.com of the alleged incident: ‘It certainly did not happen at Nickelodeon’

Jojo Siwa took an apparent swipe at Nickelodeon in a TikTok video this week – in which she claimed network executives were hostile to her coming out as LGBTQ+.

The 19-year-old entertainer’s video documented an exchange she had with the president of a company she’d been working for – with a Nickelodeon spokesman denying the exchange had taken place at the network.

The video was set to the Meghan Trainor track Mother, with Siwa lip-syncing and dancing to the upbeat song.

She captioned the clip, ‘Inspired by a true story. (side note if that meeting was today I would literally just press play on this song….).

The Omaha, Nebraska native began the clip with the title, ‘Story Time,’ recalling the details of the response she received when she came out more than two years back.

The YouTube star said, ‘January 2021: I come out to the world. The company I work for told me they needed to have a meeting with me ASAP.

‘During this meeting, the president of the company asked me: “What are you gonna tell your young demographic?”‘

The Dance Moms alum said that she ‘took a second to process what I was just asked, then replied: “The truth.”‘

Siwa said she had ‘never seen a man roll his eyes so far in the back of his head’ in reacting to her statement.

Siwa, who appeared on a number of shows on the network, said the room was silent, so she began speaking again, declaring she was ‘not gonna hide’ from who she is or loves from people, ‘Especially the next generation.’

The executive ‘didn’t like that very much, however,’ Siwa said in the clip.

She said that she has received uplifting words from adults praising her for for being a role model for the LGBTQ community, which instilled in her that she ‘did the right thing’ and will ‘never let anyone change who’ she is.

A number of commenters alluded to the children’s network in the responses to Siwa’s post.

She said in a meeting she was summoned to after she came out, 'The president of the company asked me: "What are you gonna tell your young demographic?"'

One user said, ‘Does the companys name rhyme w shmickashmodeon,’ while another commented, ‘Ended Flopalodeon.’

Siwa in April of 2022 said on social media that she had not been invited to the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards despite being a nominee for Favorite Social Music Star.

‘A lot of you have been asking me why I’m not at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards tonight, and the answer is very simple, I wasn’t invited,’ she said on Instagram. ‘I’m not sure why, but I just didn’t get an invite.’

A Nickelodeon spokesperson told Dailymail.com when asked for comment, ‘We are unaware of what incident or meeting JoJo is referencing, but it certainly did not happen at Nickelodeon.

‘We have valued and supported JoJo since day one of our relationship together and we still do today.’
