Jeff Hordley questions Emmerdale as Cain Dingle star wants 'to stay away from affairs'

Jeff Hordley’s character Cain Dingle has had a series of flings, affairs and relationships since his first appearance on Emmerdale in 2000. The soap star has admitted it would be “nice” for his character “to stay away” from scandals.

From his second-cousin Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) to police officer Angie Reynolds (Freya Copeland), to an ill-fated fling with Faye Lamb (Kim Thomson) and his tumultuous relationship with Moira Barton (Natalie J Robb) – Cain has been at the centre of love affairs and is known for his bad boy reputation.

Addressing his role in a new interview, Jeff said he hoped his character will not be roped into another romantic liaison but the decision ultimately lies with Emmerdale producers.

Asked what’s in store for Cain in the coming months, the actor, 53, replied: “More stuff with Caleb, and hopefully a bit of harmony for Cain and Moira.

“We don’t have many couples in the show that are true to each other, and it’s nice to see a bit of stability.”

He added to TV Times: “It would be nice to stay away from affairs and stuff. But I’m not a producer or a writer, and the beauty of being in a show like this is there’s always a new challenge to play.”

When Jeff made his first appearance on the soap in 2000, his first romance was an affair with police officer Angie Reynolds.

At the time he threatened to sleep with Ollie Reynolds (Vicky Binns) when Angie called off the affair and later goes through with his plan.

Despite the fact that Cain genuinely loved Angie, their relationship was fueled by angst and later proved fatal in 2002 when she was killed in a car crash in a police vehicle while trying to have Cain arrested.

Cain eventually finds himself rekindling his romance with Charity, after the pair are reunited with their daughter Debbie (Charley Webb) and go on a family trip together.

However, the pair parted ways in 2005 when Charity left The Dales.

Cain and Sadie King (Patsy Kensit) were lovers briefly following his failed relationship with Charity and he also went on to sleep with student and barmaid Jasmine Thomas (Jenna-Louise Coleman).

After fleeing the Dales in 2006, Cain returned to the village on 28th April 2009 and following a brief fling with Maisie Wylde (Alice Coulthard).

He ends up back with Charity who had returned to Emmerdale at this point and the pair were engaged on Christmas Day in 2009.

In 2011, Cain and Moira Barton first meet and begin their passionate affair, which eventually led to the end of Moira’s marriage to John Barton.

After a number of complications, they rekindled their relationship in late 2012 and Cain proposed in October 2013.

The pair married in 2014 but again went through a series of bumps on the road including infidelity.
