Beyond Paradise newcomer defends Archie and Martha ‘romance’ as he plots to split couple

BBC fans have been thrilled to see DI Goodman (played by Kris Marshall) and Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) back on their screens in Beyond Paradise. Although since returning to Martha’s hometown in Devon, Humphrey’s been less than pleased by her blast from the past, ex-fiancé Archie Hughes (Jamie Bamber) showing up and sharing an interest in their relationship.

The highly anticipated Death in Paradise spin-off is officially in full swing as the loveable DI Goodman and Martha continue their relationship six years after leaving the fictional island of Saint Marie.
As the detective decides to join the local police force in Shipton Abbot, Martha is following her dream by opening up her own café, Ten Mile Kitchen.
In the second episode, she got a delivery from her wine supplier, Three Local Vineyards, but was taken aback by who she saw.
Viewers quickly discovered Martha and the wine supplier, Archie, were once engaged.

He said: “There’s no bad guy in this, they’re all there, they all like Martha. They both like Martha and they want what’s best for her.
“Obviously Humphrey and Martha aren’t going great, they’re going through a very difficult change of scenery,
“They’re trying to have a family, that’s not working and human beings unravel at those moments.
“I don’t think Archie’s a bad guy for, not proposing an alternative solution, but for being there.

“He’s confident whereas Humphrey is not necessarily confident in the same way that Archie’s confident.
“He’s confident in his work but in his personal life, Archie sees someone who prevaricates a bit and thinks, ‘Well, maybe he’s not right for Martha, maybe there’s another outcome.’
“It’s not a given, they’re not married and there’s nothing else at stake, so I don’t think he’s a bad guy.
A synopsis for the upcoming episode hints Martha has a big decision to make about her future.
