Millions of Samsung phones will miss out on big Android upgrade – is yours on the list?

Android 14 is the next operating system (OS) that’s coming from Google and it looks set to bring a swathe of new features to phones later this year including better efficiency and added protection against bogus apps. Samsung’s own version of this software, called One UI 6.0, will be another exciting free upgrade but some Galaxy devices look set to miss out. Although most new smartphones from Samsung – including the Galaxy S21 – now include four yearly updates that hasn’t always been the case.

In fact, devices such as the Galaxy S20 only offer three years of OS changes and that’s bad news for owners wanting access to Android 14 and One UI 6.0 as it simply won’t be available.

Here’s the full list of phones that won’t get the update later this year.

• Galaxy S10 Lite

• Galaxy S20 FE

• Galaxy S20 / Galaxy S20+ / Galaxy S20 Ultra

• Galaxy Note 10 Lite

• Galaxy Note 20 / Galaxy Note 20 Ultra

• Galaxy Z Flip (LTE/5G)

• Galaxy Z Fold 2

• Galaxy A22 (LTE/5G)

• Galaxy A32 (LTE/5G)

• Galaxy A51

• Galaxy A71

• Galaxy Tab A8

• Galaxy Tab A7 Lite

• Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2020)

• Galaxy Tab S7 / Galaxy Tab S7+

While Google has yet to confirm the exact date Android 14 lands, it is expected to touch down later in 2023 with the company’s Pixel devices likely to get the new features first.

Samsung is then expected to start releasing its first beta version of One UI 6.0 in September or October 2023.

So far, only a few of the new features have been unveiled but Google is set to unveil much more at its yearly I/O 2023 conference on May 10 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California.

If the thought of not getting these future upgrades is bothering you then it could be time upgrade.

Samsung has already announced a number of new devices this year including its flagship Galaxy S23 range and cheaper Galaxy A34 and A54 which start for just £349.

Despite that low price, these latest budget call makers include 5G access, fast-charging batteries and new cameras that snap better photos in low light.
