Martin Brundle defies Will Smith security on Saudi Arabian Grand Prix grid walk

Martin Brundle ignored Will Smith’s security guard as he enjoyed a hilarious chat with the actor ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The Sky Sports commentator approached the former Oscar winner but initially appeared to be rebuffed by a guard standing next to him.

After getting through the confrontation, Brundle said: “I think we’re all organised. It’s okay. I think we’re… one question, plus VAT.” He then went on to ask Smith: “Will, good to see you on the grid. Are you team Lewis this evening?”

Smith responded: “Team Lewis that’s my guy, That’s my guys, I was out late last night so I lost my voice a little but but always team Lewis.” Brundle commented: “I think Lewis needed a big night out last night as he had a pretty difficult qualifying.”

However, he then defied the security and decided to ask another question on Hamilton’s F1 movie project.

He remarked: “Are you going to be in the new Formula One movie?” Smith replied: “I haven’t been asked yet but I would love to. I might have to work on this gut though, It doesn’t fit in the car too well.”

Brundle then poked fun at the security request, laughing: “I think my one question is over. Really good to see you.” Social media users were quick to notice the guard’s demand with some having sympathy for the Hollywood star.

Twitter user @shadowmakka posted: “Will Smith genuinely seemed like he wanted to talk to Martin Brundle then but wasn’t allowed… what’s the point of having VIPs on the grid at all then.”

@JamesKelly2398 added: “Martin Brundle makes me smile. ‘I think my one question is over and then shakes hands with the security guard of Will Smith’.”

@Jst1986 wrote: “Martin Brundle’s grid walk is suitably chaotic. Love the negotiation to get one question with Will Smith.”

It comes after Brundle enjoyed difficult moments when talking to Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise at races last season. Security also stopped him talking to American rapper Megan Thee Stallion at Austin back in 2021.

Some Twitter users praised Smith for his approach to the interview after Brundle’s previous mishaps with celebrity guests.

@babhishek21 added: “Will Smith being as real as one could be with Martin Brundle was so refreshing to see. That is how you should treat a former F1 driver, Le Mans winner and an absolute gridwalk legend.”
