TikToker LIED about ditching Hinge date because he refused to pay £2 for cheese

TikToker Dafna Diamant has admitted she lied about ditching her Hinge date after the story sparked a viral debate. Diamant claimed her date refused to pay a £2.47 ($3) charge for cheese on his burger. She claimed she then paid the £45.25 ($55) bill and walked out.

She said: “Once I was satisfied, I got up and went to the restroom. I took my purse and I went to the waitress and I was like, ‘hey I just want to pay the bill’.

“I just paid the bill and walked out the restaurant and I texted him, ‘the check is taken care of, you should have gotten the cheese’ and I blocked him.”

The video was watched seven million times and divided viewers.

But Diamant has since told NBC News that she and her date only overheard a man complaining about the cost of cheese.

She said: “If I’m sitting on a date with a person and I feel like he’s cheaping out on something that will make his meal more enjoyable, he’s going to keep cheaping out on the rest of our dates.

“It’s not about the cheese. It’s about going to a restaurant and enjoying a good time with your date.”

The TikToker laughed off how easily the public believe false stories online.

She noted: “It seems like people who had an opinion against me get the affirmation that they are right, so they kept on the conversation and commented on even the videos [on my page] that have no relation whatsoever to the story.

“If I wasn’t a person with enough self-assurance, some of these comments can really drive someone to do crazy things. So I hope people will find something better to do than comment bad things on somebody’s videos and pictures.”

TikTok user Smithfield Biggie commented: “You should take a break from dating and reflect on this situation. I don’t think this was a ghoastable offence.”

While Sophie Hind added: “I will defend the way women act all day long but some people are just insane – $3 for cheese is a joke so what you did was horrible I’m sorry.”

But others supported her decision. Maggie McGaugh said: “She is just really passionate about cheese.”

One said: “The problem is people are too quick to judge someone off one comment. You didn’t even give him a chance based on a piece of cheese.”
