THE NOTEBOOK: This was arguably Richarlison's FINEST game for Tottenham

When invited to vent on Antonio Conte before the match, few Tottenham fans declined the chance as Sportsmail took a pre-match lap of the stadium to gauge the mood.

‘I want him out now, I was here on Wednesday night and I was soul-destroyed,’ said one gentleman here with his grand-daughter, who agreed.

‘He doesn’t want to be here so why should we want him?,’ added another. ‘We might as well let him go – you wouldn’t keep a girlfriend if she wanted to leave!’

A more considered verdict came from another fan: ‘He’s too inflexible. His tactics don’t work. We’ve got players here who were bought by Fabio Paratici and not the manager.

‘Sack him now. What’s the point in him being in charge when he’s going to leave at the end of the season? I don’t care who replaces him. Our recruitment is a disaster.’

Of the 15 or so fans we asked, only one came back with a positive response. ‘Marvellous manager,’ she said. ‘Don’t despair after three bad matches.’

VAR DENY RICHARLISON

A couple of border-line VAR calls here saw Richarlison denied a goal for an extremely tight offside and then Nottingham Forest winning a penalty for a handball.

It’ll be interesting to get home and see what the experts on Match of the Day have to say about them, one thought. Oh.

RICHARLISON’S BRIGHTEST SPURS PERFORMANCE

No goal for Richarlison but this was one of his brightest performances since joining Tottenham and credit to Conte for starting him after their public disagreement this week.

The Brazilian had a fine finish ruled out for a very marginal offside after three minutes but he continued to create dangerous openings for team-mates.

He popped up in central areas, allowing Harry Kane freedom to drop deeper and impact build-up, while he gave Brazilian compatriot Renan Lodi a nightmare afternoon on the flank.

Richarlison had more touches than Kane and Heung-min Son, despite being substituted, and was a threat both centrally and out wide.

FAMOUS FACES IN THE HOUSE

There were a number of famous faces knocking about the VIP lounges in the bowels of this grand stadium.

TV lawyer Judge Rinder held back from delivering a damning indictment on Antonio Conte when asked but Soccer AM star Jimmy Bullard could not help himself.

Bullard agreed to a five-minute chat with Sportsmail about Conte and Spurs but got straight to the point.

‘Useless,’ he said, before jogging off in a fit of laughter. Daniel Levy’s guest of honour was Shahid Khan, the billionaire owner of Fulham and NFL giants Jacksonville Jaguars.

FANS TAKE A STANCE AGAINST LEVY

It was a quiet protest but you couldn’t miss it as Spurs fans took a stance against Levy and ENIC’s ownership.

There were banners along the Seven Sisters Road that read, ‘Dirty rotten scoundrels – your money is their profit’, ‘Support the team not the regime’ and a picture of the pair with ‘Guilty: profit before glory’.

JOE WORRALL SCORES CONSOLATION HEADER

Joe Worrall’s consolation header was just Forest’s fourth away goal of the season. Noting the £30 cap on away tickets, that’s just shy of £100 per goal before we account for travel costs.

The lowest away goals in a season, for the record, is Norwich in 2019-20 with seven – and they were relegated.

Regardless of this, Forest fans are loving life in the Premier League – and is there a louder fanbase – home or away – in the division?

Their choruses of Mull of Kintyre are always spine-tinglers but the chant of the day here was, ‘Keylor Navas, he’s won more than you.’

The Costa Rica No 1’s trophy cabinet includes three Champions Leagues and a La Liga title at Real Madrid and five more domestic honours with Paris Saint-Germain.

It made one wonder: how many times have two-time winners Forest employed a player with more European Cups than them?

STEVE COOPER’S ABSENTEE LIST

Forest made the most summer signings in Premier League history and it’s a good job. The reliable Premier Injuries website reckons Steve Cooper has the biggest absentee list in the league.

Chris Wood lasted five minutes before limping back off, while starman Brennan Johnson also went straight down the tunnel as he was substituted.
