  • Jude Bellingham liked Alexander-Arnold’s Instagram post amid links to the club
  • Liverpool supporters joked that Bellingham had been won over by the display

Jude Bellingham has sent Liverpool supporters into a frenzy after he ‘liked’ Trent Alexander-Arnold’s Instagram post following Liverpool’s hammering of Manchester United.

In one of the most remarkable results of the modern era, a supposed out-of-sorts Liverpool blew United away 7-0 – including with six second half goals.

Goals from Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino sealed United’s sorry fate.

It was the Reds’ biggest victory over their rivals in over 100 years, and follows last season’s 4-0 and 5-0 victories over the same side.

And in addition to a thumping win and bragging rights, some fans joked that they might have also convinced one of their top transfer targets to join the club.

Alexander Arnold posted a photograph of whimself celebrating the win on social media, showing himself with a grin in front of the ‘This is Anfield’ sign in the tunnel – and received a like from Liverpool target Bellingham.

The two grew close during the World Cup in Qatar at the back end of last year.

Liverpool supporters on social media have reacted as one might expect football fans to, with over-excitement and a willingness to dive deeper into the meaning.

‘He watched the game,’ one wrote. ‘He’s watching the highlights on repeat as we speak,’ another responded.

‘Are you thinking what I’m thinking?’ another queried.

Alongside a photo of a grinning Kevin Hart, one wrote: ‘This performance has most likely sealed the deal.’

‘Can they just announce it already, we all know it’s happening,’ another jokingly suggested.

Bellingham’s future is the subject of heavy speculation, with the midfielder one of the most sought-after young players in all world football.

He has enjoyed a brilliant season for Borussia Dortmund this term, while he was one of England’s standout performers in the Middle East in the winter, when they were knocked out of the World Cup at the quarter-final stage.

It follows a post last year during the World Cup which threw social media into frenzy that saw the right-back and Bellingham pose in front of a view of skyscrapers while out for an evening walk in Qatar.

The social media post being liked comes amid Rio Ferdinand calling for Bellingham to join United over Liverpool because they offer a better all-round package for the player at the moment.

‘If you put the two teams on a graph, Manchester United are going in one direction and Liverpool have stagnated,’ Ferdinand told the BBC.

‘I wouldn’t say Liverpool are in decline, but other teams are catching them up and maybe going beyond them.

‘If I’m a player, say Jude Bellingham or Declan Rice – two of the most in-demand English midfielders that may get moves this summer – and someone says, “Manchester United or Liverpool, where are you going?”, forget my Manchester United ties, I have to go with United right now.

‘The way the team looks, the way the squad is shaping up, the way the managers are navigating their teams’ fortunes and who I see being more successful in the upcoming future – I really would be sitting on the side of United.’
