A month ago a bullet was delivered. Now, after just 30 days, Sampdoria have woken up to further intimidation.

According to Corriere dello Sport, death threats and the head of a pig were delivered to the club’s headquarters.

In front of the club’s base, located in Corte Lambruschini, a cardboard box was found, but rather than the expected food package, the club shockingly found a severed pig’s head.

And with it came a deeply disturbing message message to owner Massimo Ferrero and lawyer and current board member Antonio Romei, which read: ‘The next heads will be yours.’

The Italian police were immediately on the scene, and both the Carabinieri – national police – and DIGOS – a law enforcement group tasked with terrorism cases – have launched an investigation.

However, the identities of those involved are as yet unknown.

The Italian publication also reports that a bomb squad was on hand at the club’s headquarters to open the package.

Less than a month ago, the club received a threatening letter accompanied by a blank bullet at the same location.

And the bullet was also accompanied by another macabre note, reading: ‘This time it’s blank, the next one will be true.’

Tensions are high at the Ligurian capital, with fans growing increasingly frustrated with the club.

Sampdoria are seeking a new owner after Ferrero stepped down from his position as president in 2021, following charges unrelated to the club, having owned the club for eight years.

But the sale process – which Ferrero intends to benefit from – is taking longer than anticipated, and the owner revealed that he has received four bullets in three years, with anger at the club apparently increasing.

One anonymous letter received by the club included threats to former president Edoardo Garrone – who sold the club to Ferrero.

And on the pitch the club have endured a torrid time of things in Serie A, sitting in 19th place in the Italian top-flight, eight points from safety with just two wins in 23 outings.
