Chelsea: Christian Pulisic claims he'll be 'back soon' as he continues knee injury recovery

‘Back soon’: Christian Pulisic shares a positive update as he continues his recovery from a knee injury… but the USA star will have to fight to regain his starting spot after Chelsea’s $386m winter spending spree

USA soccer star Christian Pulisic offered a boost to Chelsea fans as he claimed he would be back from injury soon.

The American sustained a knee injury during Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat by Manchester City on January 5 and was expected to be sidelined for two months.

He appeared to get hurt from a strong John Stones challenge that may have prevented a goal, as Pulisic was latching onto a ball in the box.

But the 24-year-old shared a positive update on Instagram Saturday as he continues his recovery.

Pulisic posted a photo of him limping off the field against Manchester City with medical staff either side of him, adding to blue arrow emojis in the caption, one reading ‘back’ underneath it and the other ‘soon’.

The US Men’s National Team’s official account commented on the post with a simple blue heart emoji.

After struggling for playing time at the start of the season with the Blues, he made three straight starts after the World Cup before getting hurt.

Pulisic was linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge with Newcastle and Manchester United both said to be interested.

But Chelsea boss Graham Potter shut down that speculation and Pulisic remained a Blue when the transfer window slammed shut this week.

Speaking in January, Potter said: ‘No chance (of Pulisic leaving), no,. ‘There was never any consideration of anything about that anyway but he’s a couple of months.

‘He’s disappointed but he’s optimistic that he can come back quicker than the two months so he’s in that phase where he’s just trying to keep his fingers crossed and hopefully his rehab goes well.’

While Pulisic did not leave the club, Stamford Bridge did see a flurry of new arrivals with Chelsea spending $320million.

The Blues faced a Champions League headache, with UEFA rules limiting the number of players that can be added to a squad, despite the club’s high-profile spending spree that saw them land eight new players in January.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was eventually kicked out of Chelsea’s Champions League squad to fit in new $129million signing Enzo Fernandez.

In addition their near-$720million splurge on players since last summer could see them fall foul of UEFA’s new Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules as soon as next season.
