Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi has described Moises Caicedo as ‘a good guy’ amidst continued uncertainty over the midfielder’s future with the transfer deadline rapidly approaching.

De Zerbi added ‘we will see what the best solution’ with regards to Caicedo, who is the subject of interest from Arsenal and Chelsea. 

Caicedo wasn’t involved in Brighton’s FA Cup clash against Liverpool after pleading on Instagram for the club to let him leave.

De Zerbi stated that the club are working to try and find the best solution to the situation.  

Speaking on ITV, De Zerbi said: ‘Moises is a good guy we will see tomorrow and next few days what happens. Ok we hope he stays with us till end of season but this is a question for the club and Moises. We start off, Moises is a good guy and in life you can make mistakes and for everyone there are many solutions and we will see the best solution for the club, for him, for us.’

Former Brighton striker Glenn Murray described Caicedo as ‘integral’ to the club.

He said: ‘He is right, players do make mistakes, he’s a young man and can be manipulated by situations not there, they have a good charge at Europe and he is integral to that.’

Arsenal have submitted a second offer for Caicedo worth £60m plus £10m in add-ons, but Brighton are set to reject that bid as they are demanding £80m.

Sportsmail reported on Friday that Caicedo was considering handing in a transfer request, after Arsenal made an initial offer of £60m.

In a post on Instagram, Caicedo wrote: ‘I am grateful to (Brighton owner) Mr Bloom and Brighton for giving me the chance to come to the Premier League and I feel I have always done my best for them. I always play football with a smile and with heart.

‘I am the youngest of 10 siblings form a poor upbringing in Santa Domingo in Ecuador. My dream always to be the most decorated player in the history of Ecuador.

‘I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton which would allow them to reinvest it and help the club continue to be successful.

‘The fans have taken me into their hearts and they will always be in my heart so I hope they can understand why I want to take up this magnificent opportunity.’

Following his post on Instagram, Caicedo was told to stay away from the club in the buildup to the game against Liverpool.  

Caicedo has made 31 appearances for Brighton since joining from Independiente two years ago.
