The Green Bay Packers have donated $100,000 worth of Automated External Defibrillators to schools and recreational sports leagues in the Green Bay area following the cardiac arrest suffered by Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin.

A similar donation was made by the New Orleans Saints to 67 local youth sports facilities in the aftermath of Hamlin’s incident.

Hamlin is ‘taking one baby step at a time’ as he bids to recover from suffering a cardiac arrest against the Bengals, coach Sean McDermott has revealed.

‘After seeing Damar Hamlin’s shocking cardiac arrest and witnessing the incredible response from the emergency personnel and medical professionals who treated him, we recognized our responsibility to take action in our own community,’ said Packers Executive Mark Murphy.

‘Damar’s injury also reminds us that cardiac emergencies are experienced each day throughout the country and our region.

‘We’re proud to work with Bellin Health to equip more athletic facilities and organizations with AEDs, as well as the tools and skills they need to save a life.’

The team collaborated with its official healthcare provider Bellin Health, to donate money for 80 AED devices which typically cost around $1,000 each.

Many places where athletic events are held are not equipped with the life saving devices and various teams like the Packers and Saints are making efforts to change that.

Once each facility receives its device, Bellin Health plans to send representatives to ensure various organizations are properly trained to use them.

‘We are extremely grateful to the Green Bay Packers for this incredible donation of life-saving equipment to the communities we serve,’ said Bellin Health President Chris Woleske.

‘Access to this equipment combined with education surrounding how to provide aid in a cardiac emergency is proven to save lives.’

Hamlin collapsed on the field at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati 16 days ago after tackling Bengals WR Tee Higgins.

Hamlin was administered CPR on the field and was then taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where he was placed in the intensive care unit in critical condition.

After a series of tests and a number of days, Hamlin was able to have his breathing tube removed and was awake and responding to doctors.

Hamlin, who reunited with his teammates on Saturday and toasted their wildcard playoff win against the Dolphins from home, is now back in the building taking ‘baby steps’ on his road to a full recovery.
