North Carolina woman wins $700k lottery prize while picking up a biscuit

It’s all gravy! North Carolina woman ‘went out for a biscuit’ and ended up wining $700k lottery prize

  • Donna Denton of Wilson, North Carolina, went to Fremont Food Mart Friday
  • She purchased a biscuit along with a $10 Triple 777 lottery ticket
  • When she arrived home, she discovered she’d won the $700,000 prize
  • Wilson, a production assembler, plans to donate some winnings to her church

A North Carolina woman’s trip to a supermarket to buy biscuits ended in the purchase of a winning, $700,000 lottery ticket.

Donna Denton of Wilson, North Carolina, went to Fremont Food Mart on North Wilson Street in Fremont on Friday.

As she put it, she just ‘went out for a biscuit’ to the nearby store and added on a $10 Triple 777 lottery ticket.

The ticket turned out to be a winner, giving Wilson – a production assembler – the $700,000 prize.

Wilson double checked the winning ticket with her husband when she got home. The owner of the store confirmed to DailyMail.com Wednesday that they sold the winning ticket.

After required state and federal tax withholding, Wilson will take home around $497,073.

Denton says the winning prize was just the icing on top of her family’s Christmas holiday.

She said: ‘We had a very Merry Christmas. This made Christmas a little happier. We were happy anyway, now we’re happier. This is a blessing.’

Denton will also be paying some of the winnings forward, as she plans to give a chunk of the money to her church.

The Triple 777 game was introduced by the North Carolina State Lottery in December. There are only two of the remaining four prizes of $700,000 left in circulation.

This is actually the second time this year a trip to buy biscuits has ended in lotto winnings.

A Tennessee mother won $1million in the lottery in August while on the way to work, similarly stopping for a breakfast biscuit.
