Princess Charlene & Albert look ‘over the worst and stronger than ever’ for family photo

The South African Olympic swimmer married the Prince in 2011, and together they welcomed Princess Gabriella, Countess of Carladès, and Prince Jacques, Hereditary Prince of Monaco, in 2014.

For their 2022 Christmas card, the family of four posed next to a beautifully decorated Christmas tree.

The photograph was then turned into a short video, which saw the image printed on a card and positioned on a branch of the Christmas tree before a message of Christmas well-wishes appeared.

“My family joins me in wishing you peace and joy for Christmas and a Happy New Year 2023,” the message read. Princess Charlene and Prince Albert’s signatures were featured at the bottom.

In terms of the photograph, Princess Charlene and Prince Albert stood behind their two children, both resting an arm on each child. Princess Gabriella, however, held onto her brother, Prince Jacques.

Judi looked at the photograph of the Monegasque royals and analysed their body language.

She said: “This group pose signals family unity and even happiness after a difficult few years but the overall signals of affection and a more evenly-balanced bonding here do seem to create the impression that they are over the worst and maybe even stronger than they were.

“Charlene’s head-tilt smile looks more relaxed and congruent than it did before and her pose standing close to her husband seems to include some arm closeness or even touch.

“Albert looks trimmer and more upbeat than he has for a while and although the couple are standing behind their children, their touch rituals also look relaxed.”

As for Princess Gabriella, the expert commented: “It’s incredibly sweet how Gabriella’s body language makes her look fiercely protective and defensive of her family here.

“Gabriella’s pose with her hand on her hip balled into a little fist and her other arm stretched to touch her brother’s hand in a group barrier gesture makes her look almost keen to protect her family unit here.

“Instead of looking shy she looks a little defiant, with her father’s hand placed proudly on her shoulder.”

For the photograph, Princess Charlene wore a beautiful dark green, sleeveless dress that featured a deep v-neck where she showcased a heavy gold necklace.

Princess Gabriella wore a dusky pink dress, which had a dipped hem – shorter at the front and longer at the back. It had gold sparkles on the waistband and around the neckline. She accessorised with a gold headband and gold shoes.

As for the Princes, they both wore suits – blue for the Sovereign and black for the Hereditary Prince.

It’s been a challenging year for Princess Charlene, who made her return to public life after having spent most of 2021 out of the spotlight following an ENT infection.

Speaking to People magazine earlier this year, Prince Albert said: “I’m really proud of my wife. Charlene’s doing really well.

“As you can see for yourself, she’s been active in any number of different events. Charlene’s engaging more in public life and looking after things that she’s passionate about.

“My wife’s been visiting different Monaco establishments like The Red Cross and visiting people in their homes.”

“She’s really enjoying doing things together and with the kids, so this year is ending on a very, a very high note. We’re truly thrilled about how things are.”

Referring to Princess Charlene’s health, Albert added: “Last year was a very tough year for her — and the beginning of this year. And she’s really turned it around in an incredible way.”
